He calls you his 'darling.' Sherlock has never been a relationship type of guy. So he figured calling you the first nickname that popped into his mind.
You didn't mind. You found it sweet he cared about you a lot, that he really tries to make it work, even if your nickname is a generic one.
John:
He calls you his 'angel.' He claims the first time he ever saw you he saw an angelic glow radiating off of you.
You never got tired of asking him, to tell you the reason for your nickname, and he never tired of telling you the reason. John just always loved watching you blush.
