Hey guys! I'm so sorry this update took a while to get up. I got pretty sick for quite a while and missed over a week of school. I've been busy between doctors' appointments, healing up, and getting schoolwork done. Updates might be a little slower as you may have noticed since I have so much to do. Hope you guys understand!
Enjoy :)
As he entered his room where Emma was waiting for him, Killian felt as if a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. He hadn't realized how much he'd grown to love having a real relationship with his mother until they'd started fighting. He was relieved, to say the least, that the tension between him and Alice was gone.
When he walked in, Emma was at his dresser, holding a book in her hand. Killian's eyes widened.
"Don't touch that!" he exclaimed, stepping towards her quickly to take it away. Killian winced at his action. "I'm sorry... it's just-"
"Killian, you don't have to apologize," Emma stopped him. "It's your stuff. Sorry I had it. It was just there and it caught my eye."
He let out a breath.
"It was Liam's," Killian said quietly. He hadn't meant to snap at her. It was just... everybody seemed to be all over Liam's things lately.
Emma listened intently. She watched him as he crossed the room with the book in hand and tucked it away safely in a drawer. He seemed like he wanted to tell her about it, but didn't. Emma dropped the subject. He'd tell her if and when he wanted to on his own time.
"Did you talk to your mom?" she asked carefully.
Killian smiled lightly, allowing a heavy breath to escape as he nodded.
"Aye."
Again, he didn't elaborate. This time, Emma slowly approached him and took his hands in hers. Killian's eyes dropped to watch as she caressed his hand gently. She tilted her head to the side as she looked up to meet his eyes and smiled. Killian sighed, lightly tugging her into a hug. He rested his chin atop her head, his eyes closing.
Emma let her head lay on his chest. The steady beat of his heart spread a calming warmth through her body.
"What did your mom say?" She mumbled, playing with the buttons of Killian's shirt.
"A lot."
Emma waited for him to say more, rolling her eyes playfully when he didn't.
"And?" she prompted once more, taking his hand and leading him to sit on the bed. He flopped back stubbornly, not wanting to burden her with the information. Emma scooted over, laying next to him on her stomach. She rested her chin in her hands, raising an eyebrow in question.
Killian averted his eyes, his lower lip between his teeth.
"Well... it appears we're struggling. Financially, I mean. Mum's working several jobs, but it simply isn't enough. That's why she's selling things. She said... if she doesn't, then we'll have to move. And not anywhere near here. Everything would change," Killian explained sadly.
Emma didn't answer. The call made sense now. Killian glanced up to meet her eyes, furrowing his brows in confusion. Normally by now she would've said something in response to something like this.
"What is it?" Killian asked.
Emma bit her lip, worried about his reaction, and got herself ready. Hardened her face, sealed off her emotions.
Just in case.
Just in case her having kept this would ruin everything.
She couldn't tell if the fear that this could ruin their relationship was rational or ridiculous, but she supposed she'd set her expectations as low as possible. That way, any result would hopefully be less disappointing.
