Foster placement has never been great for Emma Swan. She's a runner. She looks for any and every opportunity, and then she's gone. Then she goes to the police, asks for help, and the cycle repeats itself.
Killian Jones is your typical, perfect high...
Never in her life did Emma ever believe she'd find herself in the position she was in right now. Sitting down in her room in the house she lived in, where she felt cared for, getting ready for a date of all things. Growing up, the only thing Emma rummaged through closets for was stray money to aid her in running away. Now she was tearing through her clothes trying to decide what to wear.
"Excited? Uh... well, if the pit in my stomach and the nausea I'm feeling define excitement, then yeah, Ash, I'm thrilled."
Ashley wiggled her eyebrows from her side of the screen. They'd been FaceTiming all afternoon. She couldn't exactly invite Ashley over, considering she'd end up having to explain the whole 'orphan runaway' situation, and she just didn't feel comfortable telling anybody about that yet.
"Emma 'badass' Swan, are you nervous?!" she gasped dramatically.
"No, of course not," Emma denied, lying straight through her teeth. Ashley gave her a pointed look. No way she was buying it. "Okay fine, so I'm a little nervous!" she admitted, avoiding her eyes. "I've never been on a real date before." Ashley smiled affectionately, pointing out a different dress for Emma to try on. She moved out of the frame of the screen to change, continuing talking to Ashley.
"I really like him, Ash," she said quietly. "He turns me into freaking mush. It's so hard to be Emma 'badass' Swan around him. More like Emma 'hopeless romantic' Swan. I've never liked flowers. Or chocolates, or any of that stuff! And somehow, he got me agree to let him take me out on our first date on Valentine's Day, of all days. The hell is happening to me?" Emma rambled, mostly talking to herself now rather than Ashley. She stepped back into view, now dressed in what Ashley had suggested.
"I don't think that's the one either," Ashley frowned. "This would be a lot easier if he'd just tell you where he's taking you. Let me text him and see if he'll at least tell me," she offered.
Emma shook her head.
"Don't bother. I've tried everything. He wants the whole thing to be a complete surprise. All I get is dressy."
"Yeah, but like, how dressy?"
Killian had been absolutely adorable about taking Emma out on a date since they'd gone public with their relationship. He'd been giddily planning the date all week, all the while trying (and failing) to hide his immense excitement from Emma. He was so beyond happy that they were doing this.
Wanting the night to be as real and perfect as possible, he was even hanging out with Graham and Jeff until 6:00. Then he'd come to pick her up from the house like he would if they lived separately.
"Wait, I think I found one," Emm said, her voice muffled in her clothes as she reached into the closet. It was a lovely dress that she didn't know Alice had bought for her. In fact, she was surprised to find something like it in the closet.
"Wow," she whispered.
"Well put it on! You're killing me!"
"Okay," Emma agreed, changing out of what she had on and into the soft red dress.
"What do you think..?" Emma asked, coming back into the FaceTime frame.
