****** November 1, 2017******

I sat in the court room staring ahead not wanting to feel anything anymore. Everyone I was trusted and cared about betrayed me. I was once again alone in this world but this time I had a target on my back and still couldn't understand how it got there.

I didn't blink once during anyone's testimony. It was until Kane took the stand that I even looked to the witness stand. They asked him question after question and he was so serious. This wasn't the man I met. This wasn't the man I shared my life with for a year and half. This man was nothing to me and had no care. As my lawyer questioned him, I waited... waited for some explanation as to why or how I ended up here. The one thing I never got was a good explanation. I soon realized I still wouldn't get it.

As I stared at him, tears involuntarily ran down my cheeks. His eyes never met mine as they questioned him. When he was finished he walked to the back of the court room and stood along side Parker. I scoffed knowing that everything I was told was a lie from the start. I stopped paying attention until the judge banged his gavel.

"Come on" Kay spoke helping me up "They gave us an office we can wait in with air"

I nodded as I followed behind Dwight with Kay holding my arm. We walked out the court room and down a hallway to a row of offices. I took off my blazer as the officer unlocked the door. The office couldn't get the key to work so he went to get someone else. As we waited I heard a gasp followed by a whisper of fuck.

When I looked down the hall I saw Kane, Parker, and the DA. Kane and I locked eyes then his eyes dropped down right as Kay pulled me into the office. Once she closed the door, I broke down.

"Calm down G" Dwight sat on the desk "We are winning. Everything is going our way so far. I don't need you cracking under pressure or stressing yourself out. You've done nothing wrong so all we are doing is proving the truth"

"I can't do this" I sniffed "These fucking hormones, this heat, these fucking lies!"

"Don't let him do this to you" Kay whispered in my ear "You have to be strong"

"But I still have yet to get one straight answer from anyone"

"We have to prove your are innocent before we can do any of those things"

Before I could respond there was a knock at the door. Dwight opened it to the DA looking flustered. She stared at me before looking at him,

"We need to talk" she spoke

"I'm listening"

"Can I come in?"

We looked around the room and nodded in agreement before Dwight let her in. He leaned against the now closed door. She paced back and forth before finally stopping and looking at me.

"Are you?" she ask

"What do you think" I rolled my eyes

"Is  it his?"

"Who is he?"

"You know exactly who I'm talking about! Detective Carter!"

"I don't know a Detective Carter" I gave her a smug look "Matter of fact I haven't seen the father of my child in months so for all I know he's somewhere dead... That's the thoughts you get when someone just disappears on you"

She paused before looking at Dwight "Let's make a deal"

"I'll humor you" he chuckled "What?"

"She pleads guilty to forces labor and we seek the minimum penalty"

"HA!" Dwight shook his head "You still think you even have a case! I still have witnesses baby! This fabricated case you got is some bullshit! I'm not saying shady shit couldn't have been going down behind my clients back, which I have explain to her" he glanced at me "But that woman is innocent!"

"You want to jeopardize your freedom? Lose your child?" she asked me

"I've done nothing illegal or wrong" I shook my head standing up "You don't have to believe me! You don't have to care about my life and freedom! If this fucking country seeks justice like they keep claiming in this fucking court room, then I have nothing to worry about!"

The more I looked at her the madder I got! I shook my head before walking out of the room and heading to the bathroom. Kay called my name but I told her I was fine and give me a minute. I stood at the sink of the bathroom trying to breath and calm down. I felt the tears running down my face but I couldn't stop them. I looked in the mirror and closed my eyes trying gain my composer.

When I open my eyes, my heart almost stopped. Through the mirror I could see him staring at me. I dropped my head and took a deep breath. I turned on the water and wet my face before wiping it with a paper towel. I looked at myself in the mirror and applied some lip balm then started fixing my hair. I ignored his presence all together.

"G can you just look at me" he spoke

"I don't even know you" I scoffed "But you have the wrong restroom sir"

"I'm serious G! Why didn't you tell me?"

"Tell you what?" I finally turned around "I haven't seen or spoken to you in six fucking months! I thought something happen to you! I wake up one morning and you're gone! Every trace of you is gone! I don't owe you shit! You set me up! I was a fucking mark for you!"

"G it wasn't-----"

"Wasn't what? Wasn't suppose to happen like this?" I attempted to mimic his voice with my question "No fucking shit! I'm sure fucking your mark isn't in the undercover job description!"

He dropped his head no longer able to look at me. There was an uncomfortable silence as I just stared at him boiling with hate.

"Is it mine?"

"What do you think?" I glared at him

"I was doing my job" he finally looked up at me "All the people in danger and getting hurt! I have the job to protect and serve!"

"You mean like you promised to protect me" I felt myself breaking "I've done nothing wrong! Everything you think you know about me is wrong! I don't know who's doing this but I'm not this criminal mastermind! Everyone I thought meant something to me turned their back on me for some lies! So fuck you and your job!"

"If you were really innocent the evidence and witnesses wouldn't have gotten us here"

"I don't have to prove shit to you!"

"But you do! Fuck G! You're about to be in prison for a long fucking time!"

"I won't see a day!"

"You really believe that?"

"Check with Ms. DA! She seems real afraid she's not winning this case now"

He face dropped "What?"

"I guess when one of the key witnesses gets the defendant pregnant it puts a damper on the credibility of all this" I shook my head "Have a good day Detective Rivera.... I truly hope it was all worth it"

I shook my head before walking out and finding Kay. She looked behind me and knew what just happen. She grabbed my hand and we headed back into court. As soon as I sat down I couldn't hold back. I broke down crying. Kay pulled me into a hug wiping my eyes trying to calm me down. I couldn't take it anymore. What did I ever do to deserve this.
