Chapter Twenty One

I open my eyes, the morning sun peeking through the curtains illuminating the brown hair of my beautiful mate. We were still in the same position as we fell asleep in last night, the tingles still covered my body and her delightful smell filled my nose

I pulled her closer to me and snuggled into her neck, planting gentle kisses on the place where I'll mark her one day, she begins to stir and lets out a quiet moan

Just this small act of acknowledgement made my stomach erupt in butterflies, I feel her stir and reach up to rub her eyes

"What time is it?" She asks quietly

I kiss her neck just a couple more times, not wanting to push her to far "no idea, I didn't want to let you go to check"

She groans a little and reaches for her phone on her nightstand but I pull her back toward me and she grumbles "you know my dad will be up early and want to see us?" She asks

I just snuggle into her more "just five more minutes, I'm still trying to work out if this is all real" I hold onto her tightly

She moves around and rolls over to face me "I was wondering the same thing" she looks at me sadly "I don't get why we didn't feel anything" her focus lowers to my chest, not wanting to look me in the eye and I see tears well up in her eyes

It pained me to see her this way, I reach up and lift her chin to look at me "don't cry, we have each other now and thats all that matters" I pull her into my chest, I just want to make her pain go away and to never let anything upset her again

I feel her settle a little "I'm so glad you're my mate, but I just get this feeling like somethings wrong" I feel her grip tighten around my body "please just stay near me today when we speak to my dad" she says as she looks up into my eyes pleading

I reach up and rub my thumb along her cheek "I'm not going anywhere, not now, not ever" I confess, I never wanted to leave her side

We laid in bed for another ten minutes before she insisted that we should go to the office

I get up with a groan, my leg was almost healed but it still held some of the pain as I walked, I see Electra walk over to her set of drawers and watch curiously as she takes some clothes out

She turns and looks at me "turn around so I can get changed" she says while making a spinning motion with her finger. I turn away and wait patiently, my mind wonders with possibilities but before I get to delve too deep Electra wraps her arm around mine and pulls me toward the bedroom door

I still limp slightly but the scratches had mostly healed, they weren't kidding about this mate healing thing

We reach the room to the office not long after, Electra opens the door and walks in. I speed up slightly and wrap my arm around her shoulders, I feel her lean in closer to me and I sigh content

Everyone in the rooms eyes snap to me and Electra. The first one I notice is Cade sitting in one of the chairs, he still had bandages around his neck and his eyes focused between Electra and I

I hear him growl slightly "Cade!!" I hear his father yell from the large desk in front of me

Cade stands up, his growling only increasing "how can they be true mates?! Even you must see through this bullshit!" he growls viciously. Obviously he was healing well

His father stands up "Sit Down!" He yells, I watch as Cade sits back down, Emily sits on his lap to try and calm him down

"You too, Kyan and Electra, take the seats in front of me please" Cade's father points to two seats in front of him

We both sit down and Cade's father stands up "right, I've been filled in on most of what happened and I must say that maybe my son wasn't ready to rule this pack after all" he says angrily looking at Cade

Cade looks completely shocked "what? I didn't do anything wrong!" He protests

"Quiet" his father orders, crossing his arms "to warn your own beta, your most trusted friend to stay away from your sister is childish" he looks at Cade and sighs "and not to mention threatening him with being kicked out of the pack if he disobeys you is disgusting" he growls

I look down at Electra and see her looking between me and Cade curiously, it looks like she's starting to understand what he did

He walks over to Electra and I "as for you two, congratulations and I'm sorry your first day as mates wasn't very enjoyable" he nods at us both and I nod back

He sits back down at his desk "now as for why I called you both in here" he pauses "first of all, I understand why you challenged Cade, but we abolished those rules for this pack one hundred years ago and your challenge wouldn't have made much of a difference" he sighs

He looks at Cade "it looks like you need more training, son"

I hear Cade growl and I smirk

"Now, the second reason I called you in today" he pauses and his wife comes and places a hand on his shoulder

"This is something we should have done a long time ago" he says as he places his hand on his wife's and looks up at her sadly

"The reason you didn't feel anything on your birthday" he sighs for a minute and looks sadly at Electra "is because we don't know when your actual birthday is"

I feel Electra pull away from me "what?" She asks, I think she's as clueless as me as to what's going on

"It might be clearer if we explain" her mum pipes in "it was around seventeen years ago..." she pauses "your father and I were enjoying a walk through the forests that surrounded our land when we stumbled across some blood" she looks at Electra sadly

Her father continues "we followed a trail of blood for a couple of minutes until we came across a young woman" he stops for a minute to catch his breath "she was bleeding out and didn't have much life left in her"

Her mum continues "we only got a few words out of her 'pack was wiped out' we heard her whisper" I see a small tear running down her eye "she also said 'cabin to the north' which after we buried her we decided to go look for it"

With tears streaming down her eyes, Electra's dad decides to continue "it took us an hour to get there, but when we opened the door we found a baby wrapped in a blanket"

"Wait..." Electra says stunned

"There was only a small bed and nothing else all that we found was that the blanket wrapped around you had a name embroidered onto it, it said 'electra'" her mum says

Electra begins to move around in her seat "so what you're saying is..."

Her mum steps forward "you're adopted"
