Ironwood goes out in top of Shade Academy and pulls out a cigar. Before he lights it, you appear next to him and say, "I thought you quit smoking. What excuse did you tell so you could get up here?"
"I needed a break from their crap!" Ironwood says.
"Fair enough," you say, "So, why'd you call? Need a date to Shade Academy's annual dance?"
"You got a black and white suit?" he asked.
"Uhh..."
"No dance this year anyway. We spent too much integrating Oscorp's surveillance tech."
"Worth it though, right?"
"Until an hour ago. The city wide system went down. They tell me someone sabotaged the central server, and now all the towers are offline."
"Inside job?"
"I'll figure it out later. In the meantime, we need those towers back online. FAST!""And you called me?" you ask, "Aw, that's sweet."
"I called someone I can trust," Ironwood corrected you, "Plus the signals are scrambled and we have no idea how to fix them."
"I love a challenge." you say.
"You break it," Ironwood said, walking away, "You buy it."
"I thought you trusted me!"
You shake it off and look at the tower. "Input bands have been shifted," you realise, "How subtle."
After you correct the tower connection, Ironwood calls you, "We've just had a tower come back online. I trust you made it work again."
"Not just a pretty mask, eh?" you ask him.
"Whatever you did, any chance you could do it to other towers?"
"Sure, but, just so you know, I had to sync up with the tower to fix it. Looks like there's a break-in happening near me."
"Great. I've got units nearby..."
"Don't bother - I'm on it."Swinging down to a nearby building, you watch as four masked thugs try and raise the shutter of a back entrance. You hop down and greet them with a, "Pretty sure you guys didn't forget your keys."
After the break-in is stopped, you call Ironwood. "Okay," you say, "Wrapped up."
"Thanks," he thanks you, "But, I'm detecting an assault-in-progress near you."
"You're in luck, Ironwood," your voice becomes gruffer, "Your favourite tough-but-lovable, grizzled, seen-too-much detective is in town..."
"What?" Ironwood asks, panicked, "No, no, no, no, no, you promised you wouldn't do that any--"
"SPIDER COP!"
"Please no!"
You smirk, remembering how easy it is to wind Ironwood up. You then waste no time running up the closest building, jumping off it, and swinging in the direction of the assault-in-progress. You see two men crowding a women. Suddenly, about four more men show up. "Let's wrap this up," one said, "Before you-know-who appears."
"Yeah, sorry, but Voldemort was unavailable," you say, jumping down, "I'll have to do!"When that's taken care of, you see one of them has the woman at gunpoint. "Walk away now!" he tells you, "Or she's dead!"
You web his gun and his face, pull him forward, and then make him faceplant the ground. "I knew the media was wrong about you," the woman thanks you, "You're a bit weird, but your heart's in the right place."
"Thanks for the compliment," you thank her, "Have you got anywhere to go?"
"I can take care of myself."
"I'm sure you can. But just in case, you could always turn to Beacon--"
"Save it. I don't want charity."
"They've got the best pancakes in Vale. Hands down."
"My father used to make me those... Okay, I'll give it a whirl. Thanks again, Spider Guy."
You both turn away, as you say under your breath, "It's Spider 'MAN!' Oh well," you see the top of a tall building, "Should be able to spot the next tower from WAY up there!"
You climb the wall and narrate, "From his elevated position, Spider Cop spies his destination: A second surveillance tower!"Ironwood calls, apparently having overheard the narration, "Are you..." he asked, "Narrating yourself?"
"What? No!" you protest, your voice going back to normal, "Of course not..." you change back to the gruff voice, "The General never did understand Spider Cop. Thought he was a loose canon."
"Already regretting this." Ironwood groaned.
As you get to the next tower, you fix it up, but think, "Maybe I can modify these towers to track more than just crimes..."
You do, and fist-punch the air. "Score!" you yell, "Towers are now picking all kinds of RFID signals now... Including one nearby. What is that?"
You investigate to see something memorable. "Hey, one of my old backpacks," you remember, pulling it off the wall, "Forgot I attached tracking dots to these."
You open it to see something wonderful; "The menu from my first real date with Ruby. REALLY wish I could've afforded some place fancier... But she didn't seem to mind."
Ironwood calls you, "Still there? We've got a robbery a few blocks away."
"Spider Cop's on it," you narrate, "Part Man, part spider... ALL COP!"
Ironwood groans and hangs up.
You arrive at the store to see the criminals aiming at the owner. You knock on the glass and say, "Hey fellas."
They get scared as you break the glass... and, later, some of their bones. Suddenly, a car filled with back-up arrives. "MORE OF THEM?" you ask, "Guys, if you worked this hard at legit jobs, you wouldn't need to be criminals!"
You beat them all up, and call Ironwood. "Alright, Ironwood," you say, "I'm gonna repair the last Atlas tower now."
"Don't you mean SPIDER COP'S gonna repair it?" he asks.
"Been doing a little thinking, Ironwood," you tell him, "Policing's a young man's game, and Spider Cop... Well, he's no spring chicken."
"Please be going where I think you're going." Ironwood begs.
"As of today, Spider Cop is officially retired!"
"Oh, thank Oum... I need a drink. *Hangs up*"
"We'll all drink tonight, Ironwood, drink to the memory of Spider Cop's tireless... Ironwood? Ironwood, you there? Huh, guess the emotion of the moment overwhelmed him."You manage to fix the last tower, but notice the condition of your suit. "Not good," you comment, "Can't have people taking pictures of my three chest hairs! Tools I need for suit repair are at the dorm. Wonder if Otto's left for the day..."
You call Otto and ask, "Hey. So, how'd it go with Oobleck? I'm so sorry I screwed things up."
"If you screwed up THAT badly, I wouldn't have tried to defend you. Oobleck's just nervous in the face of imminent triumph! He'll calm down; he always does."
"Should I head back to the dorm for cleanup?" you ask.
"No, no," he tells you, "I'm taking Penny out to dinner anyhow; I'll see you tonight. Short break, then back to creating the future!"
"Wish I could bottle and sell that guy's optimism," you say after he hangs up, "But he's left the dorm for the day - Good time to work on my suit in private."
You race back to Beacon, remembering to change in private, and stuff your suit into your backpack.
