Chapter 8: A Shocking Comeback

"Hey, it's me," you call Ironwood as you're following the Atlas soldiers, "What's with the units heading down third?"
"Looks like out old friend Herman Schultz is at it again." he told you.
"Shocker," you say, "Didn't he just get paroled?"
"I guess it didn't take."
"No worries-- Herman's just a big cupcake. I'll have him back in the Circle by bedtime."
After you hang up, you review the days events. "Just had dinner with my ex after saving her from masked criminals... And now I'm gonna go beat up a maniac who uses shock waves yo rob people. What a perfectly normal life you have, Y/N L/N."
Suddenly, Otto calls. "Y/N," he says, "I just wanted to make sure you haven't left any equipment you've built for your... friend... around the dorm. It's no bother to me, but if Oobleck stops by again--"
"Don't worry, Otto," you assure him, "I make a point not to leave anything there. By I know my 'friend' appreciates you looking out for him. There's a lot of people who don't like him very much."
"The people who do great things in this world are those who don't let bullies stand in their way," Otto said, "People like us!"
"You said a mouthful, Otto," you said, hanging up, "Take care."

When you arrive, Shocker bursts out of the shop he just robbed. "Hi, Herman," you greet him.
"Seriously?" he asks.
He uses his shock boosts to fly away. You web-swing after him. "Give it up," he tells you, "You're never gonna catch me."
"That's what you said last time." you remind him.
"I don't wanna hurt you," he says, "It'll just slow me down."
"Wow, that's..." you think, "Considerate. What's the money for, Herman?"
"Why do you care?"
"Actually, I don't. Just trying to make polite conversation."
"I'm done talking!"
"But this could be so much more rewarding if we connected on an emotional level... Wait, I forgot, you don't have any emotions. Come on, Herman. At least talk so we can make this interesting."
You swing kick him and land on him. "Got you," you say, "Now, let's talk--"

"I said," he hit you with a shockwave, sending you flying away, "I'M... DONE... TALKING!"
"Noted," you say, as he flies away again, and you give chase, "Honestly, Herman, why are you robbing again? You know the police are watching your every move. I mean, we all know you're kinda dumb, but I didn't think you were THIS dumb! You must be desperate! Which means you're not just stealing for yourself. You must be working with someone. Or FOR someone... You can tell me who it is now, or make me punch it out of you later. Your choice!"
"I'VE SAID ENOUGH!" he roared.
You caught up to him and pinned him in the road. You webbed his right hand down, then his left, then his entire body. "You know what, Herman?" you ask him, "You have like ZERO personality, but your suit is awesome. Can we talk design details? Maybe later." you swing away.
As Shocker is taken away by Atlas soldiers, Ironwood approaches you and says, "Good work, Spider Man. Did you learn anything about his motive?"
"I tried, but he's not very talkative," you tell him, "Plus, I think he hates me."
"You have that effect on a lot of people." Ironwood says.
"True, but you love me," you say, "Don't you?"
"I tolerate you."
"WOW! That might be the nicest thing you've ever said to me!"
