Warning: This story is a little sad, if you don't like that kind of one-shot, just skip this part.

Alfred sighed sadly, looking out the window with a blank expression.

The moon was full. He left the window open, allowing the cool night air into the room. The only light came from outside and he had total silence except for the constant beeping of the heart monitor beside him, its cool metal surface shining in moonlight.

Yes, Alfred was in a hospital on this fine Saturday night. Why, you may ask.

He was in a car crash.

Alfred was heading out with his best friend for a night in the city, but of course, some drunk driver had to ruin everything for them.

Gilbert (Alfred's BFF) was left with a wrecked car.

Speaking of Gilbert, no one had told Alfred how he was doing since the time he got here. It was really starting to get on his nerves.

Alfred sighed again, all he wanted was to see Gil, was that too much to ask?

But then again, maybe he was in surgery or something, Alfred decided to be patient for a while longer.

Finally, thirty or so minutes later, a nurse came into his room, her pink lips pressed shut together, her eyes filled with... regret?

Alfred cocked his head to one side as she slowly walked into the partially empty room.

She took a deep breath in. "H-how are you feeling, Mr. Jones?"

"Fine." He answered curtly. "How's Gilbert? Is he okay?"

He waited for an answer, but the nurse was silent.

"Please... give me news."

She sighed. "Gilbert Belschmidt is dead."

Alfred's eyes widened. "You're... lying... you have to be lying..." He mumbled.

"I'm-I'm sorry..." She quickly left.

Hot tears ran down Alfred's tan cheeks.

He didn't bother wiping them away, he was alone, and besides, more would replace them faster than he could do away with them.

Strangely, he felt... hollow.

He never had this reaction when his other friends left him.

Once he had a best friend in first grade, but it turned out he was an exchange student from Japan, when he left, Alfred locked himself in his room and cried for a week, only coming out to eat and such.

It happened again to him in Freshman year of high school. His best friend at the time, a kid that moved from the UK, was run over by a train. He didn't even want to remember what happened after that.

It could have been a lot worse though. After that, he found Gilbert, a popular, cocky albino a grade ahead of him. At first, Alfred disliked him, but when Gilbert started tutoring him for calculus, he found a new side to him.

They did everything together, only went to class because of the other.

Who would stop Alfred from ditching now?

He decided thinking about it was pointless, so he fell into a dreamless sleep. He didn't notice the silvery outline with glowing ruby eyes, watching him sadly as he drifted off.

(The next morning...)

Alfred woke up to find the sun lazily rising across the early morning sky.

He sat up, looking sadly around the room. At first glance, there was no one. Wait... was that...

"Gil?" Alfred managed to choke out. Sure, he was transparent, but still definitely Gilbert.

Transparent Gil shook his head sadly. "Ja. Hallo, Al."

"Gil... I... they said you..." Afred trailed off.

Gilbert sighed. "Ja, I did. I opened my eyes to find mein self staring at mein dead body. No one else could see me. I was worried that... you wouldn't be able to..."

Alfred looked into his hypnotic ruby eyes. "I can see you. I'll always see you. No matter what... because..."

"I know."
