My brothers were out, I don't know what they were doing,I just know what I was going to do, I wanted out of this religious family, my father was always drunk and beating us, my mother was always hiding from him, I didn't want to end up like my parents, I saw Jacob go to the forest sometimes to hunt, he says he knows it like the back of his hand, but that was my only way out, if he caught me out there, he'd just bring me back here. Jacob being the eldest means everything we do, he gets told off for, apparently he needs 'to learn to take responsibility for our actions and his own', dad was at work and mother only felt I was a nuisance anyway, only reason she kept me was because father liked how I think and how smart I was for a two year old.

I stood shakily on my legs which already had shoes on, I walked to the glass doors and ran through them, mama was doing laundry so she wouldn't see me anyway. I stumbled while running into the woods, I heard a faint gunshot which meant the boys were on their way back, which also meant my little legs would have to go a little faster if I wanted to escape

An hour later

Joseph's POV

Jacob, John and I came home to find our mother terrified,Hope had gone missing, this was usual but she was normally easy to find, this time our task wasn't so simple, mother had left the doors open so the forest was free to her domain, it had been hours since she went missing, I sent Jacob into the woods while John checked the town. That left me with with finding the child within the house, if she was in here.

Jacob's POV

I knew these woods very well, like a sniper but a small kid in the middle of the forest? Like a needle in a haystack. "Hope,C'mon out, game's over" there was still  no sign of the little sister. How far could she have gone? That depends how long she's been out here. If our mama hadn't been so careless, we wouldn't be in this situation, hope was never mama's favourite but she was still a favourite of our father's, at least if she has gone, she won't get beaten no more.

John's POV

I asked the town people if they had seen Hope but none of them had, half of them disgraced our mother for being so childish and leaving the doors open, then father walked into the town centre "JOHN!" His voice was loud and clear, I turned around to see his face covered in anger "what happened? What did your mother do now?" I grabbed me by the hem of my shirt and pulled my closer, I could smell the alcohol on his breath"don't try to lie to me boy" I cleared my throat " the doors were left open, Hope has gone missing" I grabbed me by the ear and dragged me home.

Joseph's POV

I turned to hear a door slam and John being thrown onto the couch "how could you be so careless woman? First you almost lose John as a child, now you've gone and lost hope. Where's Jacob?" She weakly pointed outside to the woods "you send all our children out looking for the child and stay here in the safety of our home while our youngest is in danger?" I saw father slap mother, I was about to suggest that we go back out together and find her when the radio piped up "Boss? We got your kid, WCKD just took her from us, saying they'll use her in the glade, that's about 16 years from now, we're sorry, Frank out"

Jacob ran in and pushed father against the door " you gave her to WCKD!? How dare you? She's a dead girl now." I was still confused as to what this 'WCKD' was and why they had Hope, why was this such a bad thing? "Jacob. She'll be safe if she stays in the glade and doesn't end up a runner"  Jacob wasn't convinced. My guess as that this 'glade' was a secure area for her and she wasn't the only one going there.
