In gathered my gear and fed peaches "don't be a twat" I glanced at Newt "I'm checking out the nearest bunker, that's John's. if I can close enough, I can see the kinda messed up stuff they do there, and maybe one day liberate the place, could be a new base for the gladers" Newt suddenly picked up a sniper rifle and started loading it with shells "well then I'm going with you" I shook my head knowing that he was going to get himself killed "I can't let you do that" he folded his arms and gave me a hard stare "I wasn't asking" I tied a rope coil to my quiver "if I die, you take my place and lead them out of here, you die, they've got me to fall on. But if we both die, who's gonna lead? Gally? Thomas? No! one of us has to stay here and keep the others safe" I was surprised when Thomas, Minho, Theresa and Gally stepped out behind him "we're coming...Hope" I face palmed "that obvious?" Theresa gestured to Newt, Thomas and Minho "they thought it was a good idea that we knew" I shoved arrows in my quiver "just so you know, I only know what's in the box. Let's hope you can climb" I led them out of camp and into the forest.
It turns out Gally is quite the moaner when travelling at all, any distance and wasn't exactly stealthy. I picked up a leaf feeling it, it had been recently broken meaning people where here not that long ago "keep your eyes open" I hopped down the ledge and watched Newt lower himself "you got it?" He smiled at me "you don't have to worry" I nodded "good, cause we're going up" I threw up my grappling hook and tugged on it "just be prepared to jump at any moment" I planted my feet into the rock and used my left hand to pull myself up while my right hand grasped the rope "how often do you do this?" I smiled at Thomas's lack of physical strength "pretty much everyday, you'll get used to your hands feeling tired after awhile" I kept pulling myself up until I was half way and I looked down at everyone else, Gally and Theresa were already out of breath "amateurs" I carried on to the top and crawled up keeping at a crouched level.
I didn't need binoculars to see John's men patrolling the surrounding area, I waited for the others to climb up and see the men "remember, we're just scouting the area" I moved the other side of a tree "how are we supposed to remember when you never told us in the first place?" Gally had a point, I'd told Newt but none of them "I told Newt, does that count?" I picked up a sharp rock and threw it at a tree the other side of the road, it made a sound as it hit the bark causing a few of the soldiers to 'investigate'. As they went to search the rest of the woods, I checked they were gone and walked into the middle of the road and peered at the place "dang, they got it good" they had good security and cameras everywhere, I gave one of them a peace sign so if John looked at these later, he wouldn't think we were invading or something. Electric fences and concrete walls guarded the door to the bunker which was made out of reinforced steel, and who knows how big the bunker itself was? And how much junk they down there? Half of it they probably didn't even need so what did it matter if we stole 50%? It doesn't belong to anyone at this moment in time "Newt-""don't even think about it, we don't want to go in over our heads"
I rolled my eyes, then something caught my eye, the black symbol on the wall, I'd seen it before but where? Then it hit me, ever since I came up in the box, I had this necklace on, the one I had on now, the symbol matched. I pulled it out from under my shirt and compared both "Minho, your good with signs, you got anything on this?" He peered at the piece of metal then up at the cross "looks similar to the Scientology cross but it's not the same, I've got nothing" I heard running from the left of me and saw faint figures "they're coming back! Go! Go! Go!" I made sure everyone else was at the edge before me as I started running and pulling out my mini SMG and firing back "Owl! We gotta go" I helped Newt clip up "they're too close, we're gonna have to jump" I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my thigh, I was surprised their aim wasn't awful but if you can get a leg shot, why not a headshot? Then I realised, John didn't want me dead, I'd interested him and that meant I was of value, his aim wasn't to kill but to capture.

I knew Newt wouldn't jump willingly so I kissed him hard and held him close and jumped waiting for the spring-back. Suddenly we bounced before hitting the ground gently but it wasn't as gently as planned, one of them had managed to slice the rope. I winced as I stood holding the wound "you okay?" I narrowed my eyes at Minho "what part of holding a bullet wound makes me look okay?" I didn't miss his glance at my ass "apart from that, I'm fine" I grabbed Newt and hobbled forward "we have to keep moving, it doesn't take some middle aged men long to run or fall down a slope, they're not that old" suddenly someone swept me off mundane feet and I noticed it was Gally "we can't have our noble leader slowing us down" I hit him playfully "maybe I shouldn't of shot back?" We ran across the first and near the road "just keep running in the same direction until you see falls end then head by the church and leave me there, you guys go back to camp" they did as they were told but Theresa had something to say "you want us, to leave you in a church with a bullet in your leg? Not happening!" I laughed as Gally laid me against the wall "I don't want you to see what I'm going to do" at that she darted out dragging Thomas and Gally with her by the arms, Minho and Newt crouched down in front of me "you too, boys. I've removed many things from you guys in the glade, but I...I don't want you to see this"
In the end I managed to get Minho to leave but there was nothing I could do or say to get Newt to leave me while I was injured, suddenly Pastor Jerome rushed in "You showed them mercy?" I smirked at his quote "none Pastor, got a few good shots, as you can see, so did they" I rolled onto my side wincing and biting my lip "take it easy Hope, your not exactly in your best condition" I tried to put on a brave face but honestly, I'd never been shot before and was scared as hell. I heard something made of tin being moved, then he handed me a piece of bark, or at least that's what it looked like "bite down on this" Newt grasped my hand making me panic as to what was about to occur. I placed the bark between my teeth and screamed as I felt something pushing inside my leg, i let out scream after scream as more pain came and then it was over and I hit metal hit metal, I sighed and kissed Newt's bruised hand gently, Newt bandaged my leg and sat against the wall next to me. After hours of talking, he helped me hop back to camp where I was greeted by clapping and pats on the shoulder "I got shot, not saved a thousand old women from a fire" I collapsed onto the bed and watched as Newt got ready and joined smiling and rubbing my side "you did good today Hope" I closed my eyes "I can do better" he kissed me softly "don't push yourself too hard, you took a bullet for us" I rested my head on his chest listening to his heartbeat "and I would do it again" I slowly drifted off but not before hearing Newt's comment "and that what scares me".
