Over at our friends' side of the story

Wednesday, May

-Bodil's POV-

I've noticed that Dove is a little shy. But she probably thinks the same way about me. We were silently watching those frisbee-playing people, smiling at each other from time to time when someone made a close catch. But suddenly the frisbee flew right at us, and - how else would it be - hit me right in the face, knocking me over backwards. I heard a boy running for the frisbee and Dove leaned over me to check if I'm alright. "Are you ok?", she asked worriedly. "Y-yeah, everything's just... spinning.", I touched my burning forehead. "You sure? That was a pretty strong throw..." "Yeah, I'm alright.", I smiled at her pretty face. My heart was beating restlessly. Regardless I decided to do something I won't regret. I quickly sat up and kissed her. Surprisingly, Dove wasn't shy at the kissing part. Not shy at all.

-Jason's POV-

I thought about what to say. I felt like just telling her, but doubt kept on creeping into my thoughts. What if she doesn't feel the same way? I'd ruin our friendship. What are you thinking, it doesn't matter anyways; she'll leave in some time and you'll never see her again Jason. But then suddenly she spoke: "You know, Jason. I've noticed that lately you've been playing around a lot, like in the pool or on the couch." ___ turned around and faced me. Oh crap. "But... if you want a relationship, you should just say so.", she looked me deep into the eyes.I opened my mouth to say something, but I couldn't.  I could see the unsatisfied look on her face. ___ started to walk away. "Forget what I said. It was a stupid idea..." "N-no! I-i... just don't know how to say it.", I tried to explain. "Do you seriously expect me to believe that? I think you just want to play around a little, nothing serious." I held her back. "Wait." I pressed my lips onto hers with all the certainty I could give her. "I love you." She smiled and kissed me back. "You know it won't be long.", she whispered sadly. "I know. But I want it to last as long as it can.", I hugged her the way I had that evening in the pool, muzzling her shoulder. Suddenly her phone rang. "Let me take a look at that...", she got it out and took a look at the display. "Grandma...?", she whispered dumbfounded and answered the phone. "Yes?" Her gaze turned more worried and worried by the second. Then she started speaking in a language I didn't understand, probably German: "Was meinst du mit 'Anfall'? Opa gings doch in letzter Zeit gut..." ___ nervously rubbed her forehead. "What's wrong?", I whispered but she waved me off and concentrated on her conversation on the phone. "Wie kann denn so was passieren?! Natürlich komm ich auf dem schnellsten Weg!", she began crying hysterically. "___?", I touched her waist. "Ja, ich komm mit dem nächsten Flug den ich kriegen kann... bis bald." "W-what's wrong, ___?", I asked again after she hung up. Big tears were streaming down her face and she was sobbing softly. ___'s screams had scared me, I had no idea what was going on. "Oh Jason...", she sobbed uncontrolably and hugged me for comfort. "___, what's wrong?!", I urged her and held her away from me to look at her face. "M-my grandpa... H-he's gonna d-die." ___ cupped her mouth with her right hand. I couldn't believe what I just heard. "Let's go home, you need to calm down." I took her by the hand she wasn't gnawing on. Her grandpa will die. She will have to leave sooner than we thought... she'll leave... me.

-Mitch's POV-

I was packing up my stuff when Jason and ___ came back home. I was going to leave tomorrow night, but it always took me a long while to finish packing, so I already do it way before my departure. I was just passing by with some clothes Mrs. Sheppard had washed for me, when I saw that ___ was crying. "Jason, what's up?" "I don't really know, her grandma suddenly called and now she says her grandpa's gonna die.", he was rubbing her back. I ran upstairs and threw the clothes onto my bed before returning downstairs. "___ what happened?", I kneeled in front of her. "M-my grandpa had a h-heart attack... h-he always drank too much c-coffee... b-bloodp-pressure...", she started sobbing harder. "That doesn't mean he's dead for sure...", Jason tried to soothe her. But she responded: "I-it's his t-third... they're the only f-family I-i have... p-parents d-died... c-carcrash...", she almost chocked in the attempt to speak. "Jason take her upstairs into her room, calm her down or she'll hyperventilate.", I ordered. He lifted her up and hurried upstairs. I ruffled through my hair. What the hell went wrong in ___'s life? Poor girl...

-Jason's POV-

Halfway upstairs, ___ started kicking and struggling against my grip. "Let me go!", she screamed. "Let me go, I have to catch a plane!" "___! You're not thinking straight! You need to calm down!", I held her tighter so we wouldn't fall down the stairs. "No! You don't understand! I need to go! They're the only family I got!", she kept on struggling, but she grew weaker. Maybe the adrenalin's backside was kicking in and she'd soon fall asleep. "Shhh...", I rubbed her back and confused Jake opened ___'s door for us. I nodded in his direction to thank him, we'll have to explain everything to him later. Jake closed the door after us and I lay ___ down on her bed. She almost stood up and ran away, but I held her down at her wrists. "I need to catch a plane!" Then she started kicking me with her legs, so I sat down on top of her belly in a way she couldn't reach me anymore. "Calm down!", I tried to say as soothingly as I could. "No!", she screamed back at my face. "I need to catch a plane!" I pressed her down. "Listen, being this hysterical won't help your grandpa. Right now you need to calm down and be strong. For him." ___ grunted in the effort of pushing me off her. "For me.", I looked her straight in the eye and her breathing relaxed a little. Maybe she'd listen now. "I'm not trying to hurt you. I'm trying to help you. I love you!", everything tumbled out of me. All the despair in my voice made her realise how stupid she was acting right now. I don't want to loose her. Her eyes slowly closed. "I-i need...", she tried to say, but she was too tired. "It's ok, shh... It's just the adrenalin kicking in, you'll have to sleep some now." ___'s eyes closed fully and she started breathing softly. I slowly let go of her wrists and rolled her around so she would lie more comfortably. How weird. She just fought like a lion and now she's sleeping like a rock. "I'll be right back.", I whispered to her sleeping self and left the room.
