The jury had not been able to give as it was sat that they need more proof and evidence on both sides. I tried talking to the judge after seeking for a mistrial, but he wasn't allowing it. Either Matthew Benjamin was guilty or innocence the murder of a man will not go unpunished.

I walk out of the courthouse with Benjamin tucking at my side. I had persuaded him not to go to his wife since that would break his heart even more. Who knows what a broken-hearted man can do? I wasn't taking any chance. The judge gave us three weeks and until then I had to make sure Mr. Benjamin was kept under my sleeve.

My phone rang suddenly causing me to halt. I reached in my pocket and answered it without paying attention to the ID of the caller.

"Hello."

"I hope I'm not too late, but I have some information you could you on your case." Nigel's voice came through the speaker.

"I actually just came out of court and trust me it took an interesting turn."

Nigel sighed before replying, "I'm sorry."

"It didn't lose the case or anything the judge gave us three weeks to get our act together." And I was grateful for that because I was going to use that time wisely.

"Great, cause I have some information that I think will allow you to win the case. Can you come over later"?

"No. I have a board meeting and arrangements for later but I'm free tomorrow." Every three months the firm had a board meeting where everyone who worked for the company was to attend and then afterwards the partners of the company would drink and talk about the success, they've had in the three months Uncle Gideon said it was a way to make the staff closer. Bonding like a family.

"That's good for me. Come when you can and bring some food for me when you're coming." I smiled at his request. Hopefully, he would get back to himself soon.

"I'm happy that you're feeling better Nigel."

He sighed, "I'll be okay. See you tomorrow."

"Bye."

I felt sorry for him. I hadn't met her in person but when I went to see him, he was always happy until he finally confessed that had met a girl and from the way, he described her I knew she was beautiful. He spoke of her with so much pride and love and now she was gone.

 Love is so cruel.

When you have it, you're the happiest person alive and when it's gone you don't want to be alive.

Why would people put themselves through that?

I sighed turning my attention to my client who was still very much beside me. "I want you to promise me not go see your wife. You said ever since the murder she has stayed with a friend. Let her stay there. We don't want any complications. The media will get this news eventually and when they do it's not gonna be pretty. Please stay under the radar. You have my number if you need anything."

The older man nodded his head, "Thanks."

I offered him a small smile, "Thank me when we win. Have a good Mr. Benjamin." I pat him on his shoulder then starting walking towards my car.

...............................

I laughed and brought the expensive champagne to my lips. Everyone was having a jolly time laughing about the cases that they've done for the past months. They were sharing jokes, eating cake and drinking wine, the perfect Partners' meeting.
