A New Beginning

Chapter 7

"The doctors appointment went really well. We got most of our questions answered. We found out that I am due in mid June and that my first ultrasound sound will be in a week." I told Mom when we got back from the appointment. "I was really nervous but Logan was my rock and helped me relax."

"That's good. I am glad that everything went well. What was Dr. Anderson like?"

"She was really nice and answered everything that she could at this time. She told us that if there was ever any questions or concerns to not hesitate to call. She even gave us her cell number in case of emergency."  I told mom smiling.

"Well I'm glad that everything is going well and that you are happy with what you have learned today." Mom paused and looked between Logan and I in a way that made me sort of nervous. "Have you two thought about what Logan is going to do now that he isn't working for the family business anymore?"

"I have been thinking about it Lorelei; actually; since Rory told me the big news. I am thinking I may try to go back to university. I would like to break away from the world my father is associated with as much as I can and try to make a name for myself that I can be proud of."

I was so surprised to hear Logan talk like this. We hadn't discussed any of this yet.

"Wow I am very impressed Logan. Do you know what you would like to take yet if you do go back?" Mom asked very intrigued.

"I'm not sure yet to be honest. When I was at Yale I took some pre-law and pre-med classes. My father doesn't know that I took either of those because for him the only thing that mattered was journalism and business. At the time I never thought to follow either of those paths because my life was planned out for me. I think I would like to take a second look at those and see what would suit me."

"I never knew that you took those classes! Why didn't you ever tell me?" I asked in complete shock.

"Like I said it wasn't part of the dynastic plan so I never talked about it. The only one who ever knew was my sister and she swore to take it to the grave."

"I think what ever you choose to do Logan that you will do well at it. How will you be able to pay for schooling though now that you are no longer under the family bubble?" Mom inquired.

"I still have a good chunk of my trust fund and I have a substantial amount of savings that have accumulated over the last decade of working for my father."

"Well I am glad to hear that. Have you two thought about where you may live?"

"We haven't had much of an opportunity to discuss that yet mom but I actually had a thought that I wanted to talk to you and Luke about."

Mom looked at me very confused but called "Luke... can you came in here?"

Luke walked in the living room and sat down next to mom. "Ok I'm here.. what's up?"

"Well I have been thinking this place isn't big enough for the 4 of us and the dog and April when she comes and add in a little baby. So I was wondering if we could move into the apartment over the diner?"

Mom and Luke exchanged a funny look as if they had an inside joke between them. "We had actually talked about the same thing." Mom answered laughing. "We were planning to offer it to you guys already if you didn't have a plan."

I looked at Logan and we both looked back at mom and Luke "we will take it!" We say in unison. We look back at each other and start laughing.

"Do you mind Luke if we redecorate a bit? You know some paint and new furniture?" I look at my new step father and give the sweetest smile I can.

"Oh geeze don't give the that look.. you know I cant say no to that look." Luke shakes his head trying to hide a smile.

"Thank you Luke!" I jump up and throw my arms around him in a huge hug. "You are the best step dad ever!"

 

"Anything for you Rory. You know that I have always seen you as my daughter. I love you kiddo." He says hugging me back.

"I love you to Luke. Would we be able to start working on the place tomorrow?"

"Sounds like a plan. Logan and I can go to the hardware store in the morning and pick out some paint and other stuff we may need. Ever done any renovation sort of stuff Logan?"

"No sir I cant say I have but I am one hundred percent ready to learn." Logan reaches out and shakes Luke's hand and both men smile.

"Sounds like a plan boys... and Rory and I will go look for furniture while you two work." Mom looked so giddy to have a new decorating project.
