I must have dozed off at some point early this morning, because when I woke up I was lying face first on the immaculate carpet, drooling. How lovely of me.

I got up and wiped the slobber off the side of my face, blinking the drowsiness from my eyes. I could hear birds chirping outside and I couldn't help but think, this seems like the morning in one of those fucking Disney films, suns shining, birds singing... only if I act out the part of one of the princesses and sing too, those birds might die. So let's not.

I stood and stretched, and much to my displeasure, I had a kink in my neck, which I promptly spent the next fifteen minutes trying to fix with no luck. So instead I searched through my closet only to find all my twelve year old sized clothing I'd left behind. Man I really should have brought some clothes down from Maine. Oh well, guess I'll have to make do.

Just as i was about to pick out the biggest piece of clothing I could find, my Mom walked in the door holding a small bundle of what seemed to be a T-shirt and pair of jeans.

She avoided my eyes and placed them on my bed before fleeing the room. I could faintly hear her going down the stairs as I approached the bed to see the grey t-shirt and black jeans. The t-shirt had "Hope. Dream. Love." Printed in thick cursive letters across the front.

After changing into them, I went downstairs to see that an omelet had been made for me and was sitting on the counter in the kitchen. It was a little burnt, but I didn't complain as I ate it in silence, my mother nowhere to be seen. I also noticed the kitchen looked somewhat cleaner.

Washing my dish and putting it away after I'd finished, I headed outside. I didn't exactly know what to do, so I climbed on my bike and headed in the direction of the junk yard.

On my way, when I went past the graveyard, I saw Chloe walking through the gravestones. Obviously it was non of my business, but I couldn't help but be curious for my new friend, and I ended up parking my bike across the street.

Chloe was wearing a red plaid shirt over a white t-shirt, along with her torn up jeans and signature navy beanie. When I got closer, I could see she was holding two white roses, and muttering quietly to the grave in front of her.

She started to laugh sadly as she put one of the roses in front of the grave, along with a Polaroid photograph of a blue butterfly. Then her soft laughter ceased and I saw her wipe away something from one of her cheeks, before she walked deeper into the graveyard still holding the other white rose.

I read the name slowly, trying to see if I recognized it.

Max Caulfield.
