Chloe and I decided to re-schedule our date for the next day, because we didn't want it to be left off on a depressing note. So instead we hung around the lighthouse until lunch, when Chloe's stomach grumbled loudly, interrupting the silence. We both started to laugh, and when my stomach grumbled, we couldn't help but laugh harder.

I asked Chloe if the small Fish n'Chips restaurant was still open along the beach front, and when she said it was, we both agreed on going there.

Chloe didn't try to take my hand on the walk back down the path from the light house, which disappointed be a little, but when we started off down the road on my bike and she wrapped her arms tightly around my waist once again I couldn't help but smirk a little bit.

"Hey, are you smirking?" Chloe asked, a smirk of her own creeping across her face.

I tried to lose the expression, but all that did was make it grow into a grin. "No"

"Liar" Chloe replied, resting her chin on my shoulder. Luckily I was facing forward, so that she couldn't see how red my face was turning.

We pulled up alongside the small restaurant, which was pretty easy to spot if the flock of squawking seagulls was any indication.

We outside on a bench, out looking the beach as we ate the fresh hot deep-fried cod. It was greasy and dirt cheap, but oh had y/n missed it. It brought back so many memories of her parents taking her here, and then getting ice cream afterwards. Which seemed like exactly what Chloe and y/n needed after lunch.

Just as I was about to bite into my second fillet of fried fish, I heard a whine of a dog and turned to see the brown muzzle of what seemed to be a Pit-bull German Shepherd cross. The dog whined again and Chloe looked over and jumped up from the bench.

"Pompidou? What the fuck are you doing out here?" Chloe blurted.

Pompidou turned to her and his hackles rose, and his teeth bared as he snarled and growled at her. I quickly interrupted that by holding my second fish fillet in between their line of sight. The whining returned.

"You know this dog?" I asked Chloe, breaking off a piece of the fish and tossing it to the dog.

"My dealer's mutt. Surprised he's out alone actually, the dog practically never leaves his sight." Chloe said, sitting back down, but her hand was on her gun handle at her waistband. She obviously didn't trust the dog. Maybe she'd been bitten once?

I cautiously reached my hand down in front of the dog's nose for Pompidou to sniff, which he did and licked some of the grease off of. "Why name the dog after a French President?"

"Didn't know Pompidou was a French President name, Frank nor I knew what the hell it meant in French." Chloe replied reaching into her jacket for her cigarettes then remembering suddenly that I have them and looking at over at me patting Pompidou's soft head.

"Huh, Mutt likes you. You must have some kind of animal whispering power." Chloe joked as she looked at the way Pompidou's eye lids felt shut slowly as you scratched behind his ears.

"We should probably find your dealer and give him his dog back. I'd definitely be worried if my dog went missing." I replied, as I stood, holding the last piece of fried fish in my hand just out of Pompidou's reach, which proved to be a good way to get Pompidou to follow us.

Frank's camper van was parked outside the two whales dinner.

Halfway to the two whales, Pompidou jumped up and snatched the piece of fish when I wasn't looking and ran off towards the camper, where he whined and scratched at the door until Frank let him in saying "Where the hell have you been?" as Pompidou scrambled inside.

"What'd I tell ya, the mutt." Chloe said shoving her hands in her pockets as Frank looked at us suspiciously before closing the door to his camper.

I snickered, looking down at my feet, before looking around at our surroundings. My eyes landed on an ice cream shop and I offered my arm to Chloe as I said. "Shall we get some ice cream then?" I asked.

Another flicker of recognition. So I wasn't imagining it.

But it disappeared quickly disappeared and Chloe's infamous smirk crawled across her face. She linked her arm with mine as we started towards the ice-cream shop. "Forget about you coming on a date with me, I think it's clear you've taken me on a date today. Maybe this day hasn't been a complete loss after all." she said with a snicker as she looked over at me.

In that moment I had the insane urge to kiss her. I don't know why, but all I wanted was for her to never have to be sad again. Everything about my Mom's alcoholic state at home vanished when I looked into Chloe's deep blue eyes. I couldn't tell if that was a good thing or a bad thing at this point.

And the funniest part of it all? I doubt that Chloe has any idea how much control she has over me the moment she looks at me. Let's hope she never finds out. Because who knows what kind of trouble that could lead to.
