5 months and 30 days

"I wish we could count down together." I say as I bang my head down once again, my laptop sitting at the foot of the bed. I'm laying on my back with my feet hanging off one side.

"Me too," Tobias says. "What are you doing?"

I glance at the screen confused. "What to you mean?"

"You keep lifting your head up then dropping it back down." He chuckles. "You're gonna get a concussion."

I glare at him and sit up. "Haha," I say sarcastically. "My bed's soft, and it's offending that you think otherwise."

He laughs. "Well. I wouldn't know considering I live almost 2,000 miles away from you."

"Don't remind me."

"Look on the bright side, babe," he says. "There's not much longer until I get to hold you."

"Five months and thirty days is pretty long time, Tobias."

"You're keeping count?"

I fake offense as I gasp. "You're not?"

"Oh no." He shakes his head at my childish behavior. "Trust me. I am. Look at it this way. Five months and thirty days is better than six months."

I cock one eyebrow. "That's a one day difference."

"That's my point," he informs me. "If you think like that everyday, that you're one day closer than you were yesterday, it will be here before you know it."

I laugh. "You're a dork, you know that?" He opens his mouth to respond, but I cut him off. "Don't you dare say that you're my dork."

He closes his mouth slowly and puckers his lips. I smirk. "I know," he says after a few seconds.

"You know what?"

"How we can count down together."

"Tobias," I sigh. "I hate to break it to ya, but-"

"We do it in between."

"What on earth do you mean by that?"

"You know," he starts, "mountain time. We can count down with it because it's in between pacific time and central time."

"That," I say, "is a really stupid idea. Plus, I am not staying up until 1 am to count down to something that's already here."

He groans, "You're right. 11:00 is a pretty dumb time to count down the New Year."

"Not as dumb as 1:00 in the morning," I mumble.

"I love you so much." I can tell the words left his mouth before he planned for them to bu the way his eyes widen.

I just laugh. "I love you more."

"I doubt it."

"Is that a challenge?" I ask, raising my eyebrows.

Tobias hums in response, and just stares at me. I look at my boyfriend's face on my computer screen, and lock my eyes with his. I don't know how long we sit there, staring into each others eyes, but I know that I don't want to look away. Ever.

His eyes are like a magnet, causing a connection that just pulls me closer. They're like violent waves in the ocean. The more I try to look away from his gaze, the more they just pull me in deeper.

Sadly, he broke what seemed to be our staring contest when his mom called him downstairs. He groans before looking at the door.

"Tobias!" his mom calls again. "Now!"

He looks back at me and sighs. "I guess that's my cue."

"It's okay." I laugh. "Go."

"Okay. I love you."

"I love you too," I reply. "We can talk later. Bye."

"Bye."

"Twenty seconds!" my mom calls from the living. I set my glass of sweet tea on the table and stand up. "Tris! Hurry!"

"I'm coming!" I speed walk towards the living room and stand beside Caleb.

"Fifteen seconds!"

"Mom!" I yell with a laugh. "I'm right here. Calm down."

She glances at me for a second before looking back at the tv. I look too, and see the number '11' plastered there.

"10. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1." We all smile. "Happy New Year!"

"Yay!" My mom wraps her arms around me in a hug. If you can't tell, my mom really likes the New Year. Why? Don't ask me. In my opinion, it's just another year, but she loves it.

"So," mom starts. "Anyone got any New Year's Resolutions or goals for this year."

"Mom," Caleb groans. "This again?"

"What?" Mom smiles. "It's a new start, and you're telling me that you have no goals to make this year the best one yet?"

"I didn't say that," Caleb rolls his eyes, "but that doesn't mean I'm going to share those goals."

Mom sighs and looks at me. "What about you, Tris?"

I blush and shake my head when I realize that the only thing I want this year is Tobias, and in 5 months and 29 days, he'll be here.

"I'm going to bed," I say. "Goodnight guys."
