"Ow," I groan as the last bobby pin is stabbed into my skull.

Christina laughs from beside me, looking up from her phone. "Beauty hurts my friend. Beauty hurts."

Tori Wu, who was hired to do our hair and makeup for tonight laughs.

"I still don't understand how you convinced me to come," I tell my best friend. "I don't have a date you know. California's pretty far away."

"Tris." She rolls her eyes. "Will and I are your dates while you FaceTime Tobias. I told you that. "

"That's not really the same thing. I'll still be a third wheel."

"It's prom," she says sternly. "You only get to experience prom twice, and I wasn't going let you spend your first one at home talking to your boyfriend who would also be missing his prom." She smiles innocently.

Yes. Somehow Tobias and I ended up having our junior proms on the same night. So we're going to experience it the way we experience everything. Through FaceTime.

"Done!" Tori chirps, and I stand up.

I grab Christina and drag her to the door where our dresses are hanging.

"You two look beautiful," Tori says in awe in we walk out, fully dressed. I smile and do a small little twirl. Tori claps in excitement. Christina and I walk to the full length mirror, and my jaw drops.

I don't even look like myself.

My hair is in an intricate half up braid. I'm wearing more makeup than normal, but I wouldn't let Tori do anything more than a natural look. Christina on the other hand wanted a glam look with striking red lipstick. Her eyeshadow is a smoky-eye look, and she left her hair down in soft curls.

She's wearing a floor length, spaghetti strapped dress that's the same color as her lipstick. She has a delicate silver necklace hanging around her neck, and she looks stunning. The only thing I found strange about her outfit was her shoe choice. Although you can't see her shoes, I expected her to be in at least ten inch heels. She's the girly one. On her feet, however, is a pair of white low-top converse. She said she could dance better that way.

Whatever.

My strapless dress is full of peach-colored lace and stops a little above my knees. I added a gray belt with peach flowers and a silver necklace. My shoes are silver and stand about six feet off the floor. I look... beautiful. Prom really is a magical night.

"Okay, ladies," Tori says. "Picture time."

We finally get to the school, and I park behind the gym. I pull my now fully charged phone off the charger because I'll be needing that.

Christina and I both walk inside, and my phone beeps. I catch a glimpse of the Snapchat notification from Tobias and smile. I open it.

It's a photo of Tobias zoomed super close on his face with the caption, 'Can I see you yet?'

I reply with a matching picture and type, 'I need to see you too.' I add a laughing emoji.

I send him some of the pictures that Tori took through chat. About two seconds later, I get photos from him. I smile really big and save them. He looks better than good.

My phone starts playing my FaceTime ringtone, and I quickly click accept. Christina spots Will in the corner and waves him over.

"You look beautiful," my boyfriend's deep voice says.

"Thanks." I look at him seriously. "You look better though."

"That is such a lie."

"Nope," I tease him, causing a small laugh to escape his lips.

"Well," he says. "Let's get this virtual prom started, shall we?"

"We shall."
