━━━ chapter five, march to war. ❝My line of vision has fallen. I know I can't hold you even if I miss you to death,❞

AFTER THE MEETING WITH HESTIA, THERE'S NOTHING PERCY WANTED MORE THAN TO SEE HIS MOTHER

AFTER THE MEETING WITH HESTIA, THERE'S NOTHING PERCY WANTED MORE THAN TO SEE HIS MOTHER. The warmth of Lady Hestia's eyes reminded him of his mom's hug, and Percy couldn't think of a better thing to cheer him up.

To put it plainly, Percy felt gutted.

Luke's mother went insane because of her conviction to become the Oracle, and Hermes left Luke alone. It wasn't even just Luke, though—It was every single half-blood. Micah's words left a bitter taste in Percy's mind; why didn't Poseidon do more for them, for his mom? Didn't he love Sally once, enough to have a kid with her despite the pact of the Big Three? Why didn't he do anything at all for them?

The gods just expected Percy to be the child of the prophecy without any arguments, without any residual bitterness, to never hesitate when it was time to throw his life away for them. Because they're the gods, and he is allowed to live because of them. He will die and kill for them, too.

Nico and Percy sat on the couch in Sally's apartment on the Upper East Side. And it just reminded him of something, seeing his mother with Paul and the possibility of more; Percy is just a kid, too.

A kid shouldn't comprehend war the way Percy does. A kid shouldn't know lost like Nico does, either.

Yet, they are here. "Thanks for not freaking out," Percy said to his mom's boyfriend.

His mom was making lemonade, hair tied back and still dressed in an old blue flannel bathrobe. She looked young and well-rested, constant happiness brightening the creases around her eyes. That's why he is fighting, Percy realized. To keep the peace for his mother; so she can finish her novel and marry Paul, maybe even have another kid. Because really, it doesn't matter if Percy dies as long as his mom is okay.

He will win the war for everyone—even if it took his life. Maybe that is what Lady Hestia meant. I am here because when all else fails, she said with warm glowing eyes, when all the other mighty gods have gone off to war, I am all that's left. Home. Hearth. I am the last Olympian. You must remember me when you face your final decision.
