The next day the rest of what Anni said came true. The woman showed up to court, despite Beth's unwavering  belief she wouldn't. The sheriffs then took her into custody. All they had done was give her picture to the sheriffs desk. It was a hallow victory.

The morning of her third day Anni felt a sick feeling in her stomach. She was quiet as they rode to work. Barely saying hi before running to her office. Leland sat with his uncle and waited for his dad to give them their fugitive for the day. As the story unfolded he wondered if this was why she hadn't felt well.

This person had a abused his dad's kindness. From a woman claiming to be his mother to his dad paying for the bond out of his pocket. It was a bad from all around. Beth was beyond mad his dad had tricked her into signing off on the bond.

As they were gearing up to leave Anni came back in the room. "Would it be ok if I prayed with you?" She asked quietly. After a lovely prayer from Justin she pulled Leland aside. "Leland, watch out for dogs. And take this." She said handing him one of his dad's merch shirts in his size. With that she went back inside closing the door behind her.

He got into the car Beth was driving with his dad. Before the cameras started rolling he warned his dad "Be careful of dogs." He said so only his dad could hear it. "Anni?" He asked in the same tone. Leland just nodded. "She's been off all day, like she can feel something bad." Dog took off his glasses and looked at his son.

He smiled "Have you got feelings for her, son?" Leland stayed quiet for a moment then spoke. "I don't know what it is. But everything in me screams to protect her from the world. She's so beautiful and sweet. I doubt she even sees me like that though." He sighed. Beth spoke up from the drivers seat "She does. Believe me son a woman knows. That girl looks at you like you done hung the moon. You better grab her before she's gone. Plus, our books have never looked so good."

When they got to the fugitives house they had to go through a fence to get at him. And damned if a pit bull didn't run straight for his dad. Luckily, with the warning his dad had been carrying his OC spray and got the dog away without harming it.

He forgot about the shirt she had handed him until he took off the shirt he had on and gave it to the man heading to jail.

When they walked in she seemed to breath a sigh of relief

When they walked in she seemed to breath a sigh of relief. He walked into her office and sat down. He imagined his parents were keeping the cameras away. "Thank you for the shirt." He started with. She quickly waved it away.

He was quiet for a minute. "You saved my dad from that dog today, didn't you?" He asked quietly. She teared up again, she nodded slightly looking down. "He would have lived, but he would have been hurt quiet badly." She whispered. He had figured as much.  Had his dad not had the spray out it could have been much worse.

"Annistyn, I was wondering if you might be interested in having dinner with me some time?" She looked shocked. "You wanna have dinner...with me? Are you sure?" That made him smile "As long as you don't mind going on a date with a 31 year old divorcee father of two with a high school diploma." She looked him in the eyes "Nothing would make me happier."

The rest of the day went without a hitch. She was half done with the backlog of financial paperwork that Beth had been buried under. There was no way that a growing company like this could have someone that did the paperwork part time. It took her a day just to go through the receipts for their equipment they upgraded last month.

At five Leland was knocking on the doorframe. "You ready to go, An?" She nodded powering down her computer. "Ya, just let me pack up. So where did you want to go?" He smiled helping her gather the paper stacks. "Well I hope you like sushi because Honolulu has some of the best on this side of the world." She laughed "Wow, that's pretty big build up."

Leland took her computer bag for her and they walked out heading to his truck. Beth saw them as they walked by. "Heading home, Anni girl?" Anni turned smiling. "Actually Leland was taking me to get sushi. Says it's some of the best." Beth raised her eyebrow and smiled. "Really now? Well you kids have fun. Be safe." She said winking.

Anni blushed scarlet and kept walking. Leland holding the door for her. Duane walked up beside Beth. "Kids heading home?" He asked in passing. "No, going on a date." He looked shocked then proud. "Good job, son. That's a quality woman. When you find one you marry them." He said kissing his wife's head.

Beth just hoped everything went well for them.
