betrayal

We built our flame one spark at a time,
Like hiking a mountain, we made our climb.
You held my hand when the world was spinning,
You kept me grounded from the beginning.

You and I were supposed to be bound
By a trust that could not be shaken or unwound.
But when the floor beneath our feet cracked open,
You cut the tie and left it broken.

When the devil said to us, "fight of flight,"
You left me to the dogs at the speed of light.
I gave my everything to what we had,
Because I believed we had a chance.

You had a hunger to be ahead;
Pretended to be blind while I bled.
I was a stepping stone in your passage,
You didn't care about the leftover damage.

And yet through all the fault that was due,
I still could put none of it on you.
For deep down I always knew,
I made the mistake of trusting you.

Be wary of people and their portrayal,
They can leaving an everlasting betrayal.
