I'm going to start off saying that this movie was slightly overhyped.
I think everyone is saying to themselves: "This movie is going to be so creepy and scary, and so good and it's by Jordan Peele!"
When the media says not to go into this expecting another Get Out; trust the media for once. Going into this with high expectations is going to ruin your movie viewing experience!
ALSO, WATCH THIS MOVIE AT A MOVIE THEATER LIKE I DID. THIS AIN'T A JOKE, WATCHING IT ONLINE HINDERS YOUR EXPERIENCE!
Now let me get into the movie!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I like the movie, but it definitely did not fit my expectations. Both good and bad!
To start off, let's talk characters! Lupita was GREAT in this movie, and so creepy and weird ( Both ways ). Gabe, played by Winston, was the comedic relief character, but also had some pretty epic moments!
Jason and Zora weren't the best characters and weren't notable children either. Jason is the standout, as he's seen more and has a WAY higher intellect than his older sister. I still can't believe that Zora did something THAT DUMB at the car scene with her Tethered.
L i k e, w h y d i d n ' t y o u r u n ?
If you want a character rundown of their roles, here they are:
Adelaide: The woman who knows every secret ( She knows almost everything, and expects almost everything. )
Gabe: The comedic relief character. Only he presents jokes at the wrong times and at the wrong places.
Zora: Crying, emotional, mess who does almost NOTHING in the entire film. ( Despite being older. And, yeah, she does kill some Tethered's and has some appearances in the spotlight, but overall she had the least impact out of everyone. )
Jason: The only normal one out of the group ( Despite still being weird ).
Adelaide was a creepy character though, and that's what so good about her and her Tethered. Gabe was an eh; Jason was good, and Zora is a H E L L N O. All their Tethered counterparts are the same, except way weirder.
Now onto the theme and cinematography-
LITERALLY THE BEST THING OF THE WHOLE FILM. The score was so creepy, with staccato notes that ring out in your ears. That's why you should watch it at a movie theater because of the dramatic theme and actual film.
I give the theme and score a 10/10, maybe even 11/10!
And also, the "I got 5 on it" twisted remix, from the trailers, IS in the film multiple times! So if you liked that theme, then you're going to be pretty happy!
Now I'm going to go into the plot twist WITHOUT SPOILING IT. I will say that I had no idea in what direction I'd go, but after seeing the film...it was good.
I will say that the plot twist has hints of a famous theory that many fans of J.P had about the film before release, except it's a different version of it. I won't say what or who the plot twist involves, but I will say this:
The plot twist explains one of the character's definitions I wrote up above. Right after the plot twist is the climax, and one of the creepiest points of the movie.
~~~~~~~~~
And that was my review of the film! Hope you guys enjoyed and hope that gives you some expectation for this film. It's a good movie, but don't go into it expecting another Get Out. You won't get the message until a rewatch, or very late into the film.
I'm STILL peicing together the plot twist with explanations of things happening, so y e h.
Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed!
