You get back to Addison Apartments, ready to go meet up with the next person. You head up on the elevator, relieved that no one's inside with you. Getting off on the second floor, you go the opposite way from your apartment, taking a deep breath before knocking on the door.
You hear a muffled 'wait' inside, hearing a door open and close until the one you were in front of opens up. You suddenly freeze, looking up at the curly haired guy from yesterday. You could see the subtle changes in his expression, his eyes furrowing in the slightest, the corners of his mouth curving downwards, and the curious glint in his eye turning into one of sadness.
"Hey.. Todd." You greet, wondering if you got the name right. He just stares down at you, and you could see it in his eyes that he's contemplating whether or not to shut the door on you. You show a nervous smile, asking, "Can we talk?"
"Why?" He asks, and the guilt settles into your heart once again. You wonder if he can see the nervousness in your eyes or in your expression itself.
"I have.. to explain myself, if I may." You say, looking down at your hands as you twiddle with your thumbs. "It's important."
He steps aside, letting you in, "Let's talk in my room then."
You nod, bowing your head as you enter his apartment. You follow him to his room after he had closed the door, with you sitting on his bed as he sits on the computer chair.
You take a moment to look around his room, wondering if there's anything you can remember. Sadly, everything is still blank to you.
"What do you have to explain?" He asks, spinning his chair so he'd face the computer. You stare back down at your hand, feeling the waterworks make their way up your eyes as, again, the guilt seems to swallow you whole.
"First of all, I don't remember anything from Nockfell." You tell him, wondering how he'll react. You glance at him, seeing him still typing into his computer. You go on, "I don't remember anything from here, but the earliest memory I have is of me waking up in the hospital."
".. You had amnesia, guessing by what you're saying?" Todd mumbles, though loud enough for you to hear. You glance up at him with a nod, seeing him just staring at his computer and no longer typing. He sighs a bit, leaning back into his chair, "I'm sorry you had to go through that. I understand."
"Is.." The question begs to stay on your tongue, but you decide to ask anyway, "Is Sal mad at me?"
"Sadly, that's an understatement." He answers, turning his chair to face you. You frown at this, already expecting that some of them are pissed at you. He lets out a sigh, taking off his glasses as he wipes the lenses off with the hem of his shirt, "Sal had gone on a rant as well as a breakdown down in the basement at Larry's apartment. I suggest that you speak with him as soon as possible."
"Just how close was I to all of you before I left for [us state]?" You ask, frowning a bit. He puts his spectacles back on, only to turn back to his computer as he opens a file. You scoot to the edge of the bed, just so you can see what's on the screen.
You watch as Todd leads the cursor to a folder called "KEEPSAKE", double-clicking on it to reveal pictures of you with all of them. Your eyes widen, looking through each and every picture.
"These pictures are all of the pictures we have with you, I compiled them all into a singular file in case Ash might want to create a photo-album for all of us." He tells you, scrolling through the contents of the folder. "Not only were we friends, we already considered ourselves family. When you left, it was so sudden and you didn't tell any of us. Of course, we were distraught and heartbroken with your departure."
"I didn't tell you that I was leaving?" You ask, suddenly feeling angry with yourself. Everything was you fault to begin with, and the worse part was that you didn't know.
Just who were you before the crash?
"We asked your father about it, but he too said he didn't know where you went." Todd turns back to you, a frown shaped on his lips. "We didn't really have any idea, but.."
"But what?"
He looks down at his hands, saying, "I remember you admitting to us one time that your relationship with your father was rocky, but we know that you love him deeply. I can only assume that you had a big fight and that led you to leaving."
"That's quite an assumption." You frown.
"Well, you've joked about leaving Nockfell if something goes horrible." He comments with a shrug. You blink at him, reflecting about yourself.
"I don't really recall any of this." You groan, leaning back on the bed. You start to tear up as you hide your eyes with your arm, sniffling, "It's hard not remembering anything, even after looking at the pictures."
You feel the bed dip from beside you, your arm being pried away from your face.
"As cliche as it sounds, you might not remember anything from the past but that's not stopping you from making new memories with us, Y/N." Todd sits you up, wiping your tears with the sleeves of his shirt. He gives you a smile, trying to cheer you up, "At least you're here again, but then again.. there's.. Sal and Larry being a bit pissed at you.."
"Are there any certain memories that consist of just the two if us?" You ask him, hiccuping as a result from you crying. He averts his eyes as if trying to remember anything.
"Mostly it would be with the squad, but the moments that only we have are the weekly tutoring sessions, Math class, Gym, or when you need a friend you just need to run across the hall to my apartment." He answers, looking back at you. He smiles again, "Though, like I said, more memories will be made."
Finally, you return the gesture with a genuine smile of yours, wiping the tear streaks from your cheeks, "Thanks, Todd, for hearing me out."
"That's what a friend does, Y/N." He gives you a hug, making sure you feel comforted.
Pulling away, you glance back at the computer at all the pictures you've had. You stare, hoping to feel even the slightest bit of nostalgia.
News flash, you don't, but Todd's quote gives you hope at least.
"Thanks again, Todd." You stand up, patting him on the shoulder. "I'll be seeing myself out."
"Surely, it's almost dinner and I know that your father would be looking for you by now." He stands up as well, ruffling your hair. "Just know that I'm here for you, Y/N."
"I know." You smile before heading out of his room, then out of his apartment. Your heart feels full from learning more about yourself before, walking with a spring in your step as you go back to your apartment. You open the door, already smelling the scent of meatloaf in the air.
"Ah, just in time! Dinner's ready." Your dad smiles at you from the kitchen, wearing oven mitts as he places the pan of meatloaf on the table. "Wash up and head on over here."
You smile in return, feeling confidence for what tomorrow might bring.
Next up is the blue-haired boy's apartment, Sal Fisher in room 402.
