The unicorn, Fantine, lying alone on the mattress, pulls herself upright, sitting with her head against the pillow. She brings her back hooves up to her chest and wraps her front hooves around them. She was huddling from the misery all around her--- of this Equestria.

I Dreamed a Dream Lyrics (Pony Version)

There was a time when stallions were kind

When their voices were soft and their words inviting

There was a time when love was blind and Equestria was a song

And the song was exciting

There was a time

Then it all went wrong

I dreamed a dream in times gone by

When hope was high and life was worth living

I dreamed that love would never die

I dreamed that ponies would be forgiving

Then I was young and unafraid

And dreams were made and used and wasted

There was no ransom to be paid

No song unsung, no wine untasted

But the tigers come at night

With their voices soft as thunder

As they tear your hope apart

As they turn your dream to shame

He slept as summer by my side

He filled my days with endless wonder

He took my fillyhood in his stride

But he was gone when autumn came

And still I dream he'll come to me

That we will live the years together

But there are dreams that cannot be

And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be so different from this hell I'm living

So different now from what it seemed

Now life has killed the dream

I dreamed

It was snowing like crazy and Fantine, shivering, was waiting for trade. The poor unicorn was pale and looked she was sick from the extreme cold, but still attempted to smile like Pinkie Pie.

She moves past each anchored ship and spots Valjean talking to a beggar, giving the beggar some bits. As the unicorn watched Valjean, a well-dressed stallion named Bamatabois comes up to her with his friends and servant.

"Here's something new. I think I'll try it." The mysterious stallion said, "Come closer, I think you'll like to see what I buy. But there's a catch. All for the slice of your pie."

"No, I don't want you!" Fantine cried, "Let me go!"

"Are you deceiving me? I won't pay more! Oh, you've got some nerve, you little slut!" He said, "You've got some gall! It's the same with a tart and a clerk. Ponies see what they get in advance. It is not for the whore to say 'yes sir' or 'no sir'. She just complies! In fact, it's for me to choose who to lead me a dance!"

He pulls on Fantine's tail and touches her.

"I'll kill you if you try any of that filth on me! Even a whore who has gone to the bad  will never be had by a rat!" Fantine shouted.

Then, she used her magic  to attack him, resulting in him bleeding.

"You'll pay for what you've done! Oh, I will make you suffer!" Bamatabois shouted.

Bamatabois sees that the police had arrived and Fantine begs not to be reported. Against her will, however, Bamatabois' friend drags her towards Javert.

"Tell me quickly who saw what and when. Allow him to give a full description and he will answer to me." Javert said, "In this whorenest, Let the pony explain what she saw. Who laid hooves on this good stallion here? What is the meaning of this brawl?"

"Javert, this pony attacked me!" Said the bleeding pegasus.

Turning to Fantine, Javert said, "She will answer for her actions by the time she makes a full report. You may rest assured because she must and will answer to the court."

"But sir! There's a filly who needs me! Why, she's only but that high! Is there no mercy in your heart? If I go to jail, she'll surely die!"

"I've heard several of these protests every day for 20 years." The Earth pony said, "Let's have no more explanations. Save your breath and tears."

The two policeponies drag Fantine away,  but then Valjean appears coming from the shadows. He believes her.

Fantine's Arrest Lyrics (Pony Version)

A moment of your time, Javert

I do believe this mare's tale

Monsieur le Mayor!

You've done your duty, let her be

She needs a doctor, not a jail

Monsieur le Mayor!

Can this be?

Where will she end

This filly without a friend?

I've seen your face before

Show me some way to help you

How have you come to grief in such a place as this?

Monsieur, don't mock me now

It's hard enough, I've lost my pride

You let your forepony send me away

Yes, you were there, and turned aside

I never did no wrong

Is it true, what have I done?

My daughter's close to dying to an innocent soul?

If the Princesses can do something, I'd be grateful

If they will be there

Had I only known

They'd let me die instead

In their royal names my task has just begun

I will take her to the hospital!

Monsieur le Mayor!

Where is your filly?

I will send her immediately

I will see it done!
