"Monsieur le Mayor, I have a crime to declare! I have disgraced my uniform! I've done you wrong, but please don't forgive me. I've been hard on everypony I've known. I'm to blame." Said Javert.

"Wait, what crime?" Valjean asked.

"Well, I thought you were a criminal, so I made a false report." He replied, "Now they've caught the culprit and he's about to face the court. And yes, the thief denies it. Why wouldn't he? But he can't run forever. No, Jean Valjean."

"You say this pony denies everything and has no understanding or  regret for what he has done?" Valjean asked, "You say he's going to trial. Is he sure to be returned to serve his sentence?"

"He and I must pay." Javert replied, " Go ahead and press charges against me!"

"You've done nothing wrong, you've only done what you must." Valjean said, "Everypony has been mistaken. You'll return to your post."

"Must I listen to you? Must I follow what you say?" Asked Javert.

"It is your duty to obey!" Valjean demanded.
