It had been two days. Gus and I had managed to avoid one another at school. But when we were home, we would sit on the porch and talk for hours. It sucked that Beth wouldn't just get to know him. But I guess in time things would change.

Beth and I were walking to art class when I stopped. "What is wrong?"

"I forgot my notebook in history. I will be right back." I started to walk off.

"I'll wait for you in art class." She yelled after me.

I rushed to history class and ran into Gus. "Not again."

I fell on my ass. "Hey E. How's it going down there?"

"Shut up and help me up." I held my hand out.

He grabbed it, helping me up. "Why in a rush?"

"I forgot my notebook." I went by him into the classroom.

"You mean this notebook with me all up in it." I turned around to a smug Gus leaning against the door frame.

"Give it to me Gus Gus." I reached for it.

He held it high in the air. "Why should I? It is my face. I should keep it."

"Gus, please. I must get to art class. Beth is waiting." I made an annoyed yet desperate face.

He sighed heavily. "Alright. Wouldn't want her mad at you? But I am keeping one of them."
He looked through and tore out the one he wanted. Then gave it back. "See you later E."

He walked off and I rushed to art class. I took my seat by Beth. "Hey."

"Where were you?" She scorned me.

I gulped. "I had to find Mr. Hancock. I couldn't find my notebook and I figured someone handed it in. They did. He gave it back to me. Thank gosh, my art project is in it."

She smiled. "Glad you got it back."
