Editor's Note: I have to work tomorrow, so I'm posting a little early. Besides, it's Sunday in Thailand, right?!? 🤣 This is full of the crazy, so brace yourselves.

[Knock's POV]

"Do you young men know each other?" Pleng's mother asked, glancing back and forth between Korn and I in confusion.

We all stared at each other uneasily for a split second, until Korn smiled awkwardly, explaining; "Knock is a good friend of mine."

"Pleng, come here girl."

Pleng's mother called her to where Korn was standing. She was unwilling and looked vaguely nauseous. Korn seemed to be struggling to keep his face from twisting in disgust, but Pleng's mother seemed oblivious to both of the young people's obvious mutual distaste for each other.

"How is your brother, young lady?"

"The Doctor asked me to wait here. I haven't heard any news yet."

"Oh dear, that makes my heart feel uneasy." Pleng's mother said nervously and her nervousness rippled and spread through the assembled group.

"You don't need to worry, Auntie. I'm sure Phop will be alright, you'll see." Korn comforted Pleng's mother gently laying his warm hands on her small shoulders. Wow, he really knows how to talk to elderly people well!

"Thank you, son. And, thank your mom for me, too."

"Of course, Auntie." Korn flashed her a smile worthy of a Phra Ek (E/N: a lead actor in a lakorn). I really wanted to kick him in the back of the knees so he'd stumble. It would only make me look even worse to everyone present, so I managed to restrain myself.

"Mom, why do you know him?" Pleng asked, eyeing Korn awkwardly. I was wondering the same thing; but also, it was really only just dawning on me how much Pleng hated him.

"He's the son of my best friend! You should get to know him, so you two can be good friends too." Pleng's mother caressed her hair gently. Pleng's mother's words had caused Pleng and Korn's to exchange looks of mutual dislike before Pleng looked away, scowling.

Korn rolled his eyes theatrically, silently mouthed words "Great." The flower of friendship will certainly bloom.

"Everything seems under control here, so I'm going to get going if there's nothing else." I said with an unnatural smile frozen on my face.

"Stay here with me, Knock". Pleng said immediately, grabbing one of my arms and hanging on with a death grip.

I instinctively looked at Korn, I could feel the fire of fury burning in his eyes, and it would definitely burn me if I let Pleng keep hugging my arm!

"Err, Pleng, I've got something to do." I smiled thinly, trying to gently extricate my arm from her surprisingly strong hand.

"Let him go Pleng, you can stay here with Korn." Pleng's mother said dismissively. Pleng's mother obviously liked Korn a lot, and wanted them to get to know each other.

Pleng's mother's intentions were obvious and it made me feel extremely uneasy. Auntie, did you ever think to ask me if I was okay with letting my ex-girlfriend and my husband develop a relationship? Eeeesh!

"No way!" "Definitely not!" Both Pleng and Korn spoke simultaneously, their tones so vehement that Auntie was taken aback.

Korn grabbed my hand, trying to force Pleng to release her hold on my other arm. "There is something important that my friend and I need to take care of" Korn explained, "Since Auntie and Uncle are here to look after your daughter now, my friend and I will get going first." Korn smiled artificially, his eyes shining with a peculiar gleam when he turned to look at me. He pulled on my hand, whispering harshly, "Come here!"
