Scientific Makeup: Pink to purple variety of Spodumene. Lithium aluminum silicate from the pyroxene group. White streak. Hardness is 6 1/2 - 7.
Environment: Found only in granite pegmatities. Generally occurs with tourmaline, albite, and lepidolite.
Found in: San Diego, California, Maine (United States), Brazil, and Madagascar.
Name: Named after George F. Kunz, PhD, mineralogist and author of "The Curious Lore of Precious Stones".
Magick and Legend: Relatively new stone discovery, with no mention in ancient texts. Relatively unexplored for magickal purposes, but has been found to be good for attracting love and as a centering/grounding stone. A good crown chakra stone.
Healing: Because of high lithium content, recommended for psychological disorders and sever/manic depression.
Note: Kunzite with fade gradually when exposed to sunlight.
