Scientific Makeup: A member of the Corundum family, along with the ruby. Aluminum oxide. Ranges in color from pink, blue, green, violet, gray, yellowand many shades in between. White streak. Hardness of 9.

Environment: Hexagonal. Sometimes tapering prismatic, pyramidal, and tabular. Often striated.

Found in: Yogo Gulch, Montana. Several places in North Carolina. Thailand, Ceylon, and Burma.

Magick and Legend: Associated with divine favor. Buddhists believed it favored devotion and spiritual enlightenment. Associated with Apollo by the Greeks. Worn as an aid in prophecy when consulting oracles. Aids in developing the third eye. Believed to aid its wearer against capture. Worn andutilized in rituals to strengthen the ability to tap and sendforth power. Birthstone for September:
