Scientific Makeup: A potassium, lithium, aluminum fluorsilicate mica. Colors varies from pink, lilac, yellowish, grayish white or a combination of all of these. Colorless streak. A soft stone, with a hardness of 2 1/2 - 3.

Environment: Confined to granite pegmatites, where it occurs either as fine-granular masses near the core of the pegmatite or as stubby or tabular crystals in cavities. Associated with microline, quartz, and tourmaline.

Found in: Pala, California, New England states, the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Name: Greek. Derived from the word "lepidos", which means scale.

Magick and Legend: Not much information found in ancient texts about this stone. Considered "new age". Soothes anger, hatred, and any other negative emotion. Quiets one's house.

Healing: Known as the "Dream Stone". Protects one from nightmares, especially those caused by stress or upset in personal relationships. Use to help with manic depression and schizophrenia. High in lithium.
