I open my eyes, and immediately I know.

I know I'm different.

For one thing, this is the first time I've ever opened my eyes, but I'm not small. I'm not a baby, and yet I am born into this world. I have a fully developed mind and body, and it confuses me.

For another, I feel heavy and stiff, and because I am not a baby, I know that is not how babies are supposed to feel. They're supposed to be chubby, soft, and warm. I am hard as a rock, thin, and cold, as if I were made of metal.

Because I am.
