A Story

I was ambling down the street one day

When a kid sneered, "Looks like we got some prey."

This neighborhood was filled with drugs.

I said, "I don't deal with thugs."

He picked me up by the collar of my shirt

And I knew this was gonna hurt.

His fist connected with my face.

Undeterred, I said, "You're a big disgrace."

He unleashed a string of cusses

And I ran while he fusses.

My heartbeat quickens.

My stomach sickens.

Adrenaline rushes through my veins,

Weakening these chains.

I live in a world where anger reigns

And only hope remains

And the devil gains

And my heart bottles pains.
