An Ode To The One That Got Away

I think I might have loved you,
But you left before I found my voice.
I dreamed we could have been something.
I only had to ask.
Your laugh brightens my day.
Your jokes make me smile.
Your careless attitude shows such confidence.
I miss that.
I miss your gracefulness.
I miss your slender figure.
I miss how you held your chin up high, even when others looked down on you.
You never stopped to listen to the hate.
You never paused to find the love.
You just kept moving, pacing on the those restless nights.
The phone would ring and I lept to it, hoping it was you.
When the moon was high, your voice on the receiver gave me hope.
Your words carry such power.
Though you claim you don't know, when I look in your eyes I can see the answer to every question.
Your eyes hold the universe and all its secrets.
I only wish I could have found the key to unlocking them.
But you're the one that got away.
