We all continued to stare at each other after Davison had made the declaration of me being Richard’s
new personal assistant.

I briefly looked at Richard to see him staring at me only he looked very mad.

“I don’t want it,” he said as he shrugged his shoulder.

My jaw dropped at his rudeness. He called me 'it'.

“Richard!”

“Dad we already discussed this, and I thought you understood,” Richard complained as he looked at his
dad with his arms folded.

“You need some help around the office Richard! You have become so disorganized lately.”

“That is because you made me get rid of Kimberly and she was really good around here,” Davison shook
his head at this.

“I don’t like her. She is using you!”

“Oh really? And how do you know she wouldn’t?” Richard said as he pointed at me.

It was then that I decided to defend myself.

“I don’t use people Richard,” I explained as I gave him eye contact.

He stared at me for a bit before
nodding and giving me a sarcastic smile.

“Well Kimberly said that too!”

“If you know this then why do you stick around her,” Richard asked his son who looked ready to explode.

“It’s because I don’t mind her using me. I love her! And I don’t need a replacement,” Richard said angrily
but Davison went and grabbed Richard by his shoulders.

“Miranda is just going to be helping you with your work because you are behind. That is all,” Richard had a
desperate look on his face.

Wow he really didn’t want me. “

I know you want the best dad but honestly I don’t need a new one. Not
now,” Richard looked at me angrily before saying: “Not ever!”

Davison removed his hands from Richards shoulders, looking slightly disappointed, “Whether you like it
or not Miranda is going to be coming in and helping you. That is that.”

Richard took a step away from his dad before heading to the door, “Where are you going Richard? you
have to show Miranda around as I have a meeting.”

“No!”

“I have a meeting! And you better do as I or-“

“- or what dad?”

“You know what I will do Richard,” The two of them had a stare of competition while I stood there awkwardly holding onto my bag.

“I kind of have to go,” I lied quietly. “I forgot that I had to meet up with my Dad.”

“That is perfect Mariah,” Richard said sarcastically.

“My name is Miranda,” I corrected as I made my way to the door but before I could get there someone got in front of me.

It was Davison. “I am sorry you feel like you have to lie to get out of this situation and I am sorry Richard
is being difficult.

“It’s okay,” I looked at Richard to see him on his phone. “Maybe he might want to try this another day?”
Richard looked up at me in shock before looking at his father.

“Saturday morning dad,” Davison nodded looking very disappointed, but he seemed to agree with the
changes.

“Saturday morning it is. Let me walk you out Miranda. My meeting can wait,” me and Davison headed to
the door, but Richard stopped us.
