At about half past two in the morning and with basically no one entering the store, my desire and need to fall asleep increased to the point of almost falling asleep on the counter. Not even the music I was playing through the speakers seemed to wake me up and I had no one I could talk to that would keep me busy.

As I also didn't want to waste any time, I had also been using my free time to study and revise certain topics that would be covered on future lectures so I didn't have to study that much when the exams came. I had learnt it the hard way the previous year and I didn't want to repeat the feeling of uneasiness and regret that came with procrastination ever again.

At around a quarter to three, the door of the store opened and I looked up only to see Mingyu standing in front of me.

"What are you doing here?!" I asked him. "You should be sleeping."

"Wonwoo wanted to come but he has a lecture early in the morning, so he needed to sleep. I offered myself," he explained. "We already made clear our objection to you coming back to the dorms alone so late."

"How did you even manage to leave the dorms? They close the doors at midnight!" I asked him.

"Thankfully one of the guys from the first floor was kind enough to let me jump off his window," he said nonchalantly while I was wide-eyed from the shock. "Don't worry, it's not that high."

"Well, Spiderman, how do you plan to get back inside your dorm. Climbing through the walls?" I asked him and it was now his turn to become wide-eyed. "You are such a genius..."

"I should have probably thought that through..." he said scratching his nape. "Well, anyways, how much time is there left until your shift ends?"

"About ten minutes. I need to sweep the floors before leaving, though," I told him. "You can wait by the table. Take a snack or something, I'll pay."

Thanking me, he headed to the snack area and picked a bowl of ramen, which I placed the money for in the cash register. He then prepared it with one of the machines we had there before coming back towards where I was and leaning on the counter while eating.

"Do you want some?" He asked me and I nodded.

He then tried to feed me with the chopsticks and we almost made a mess. The ramen noodles were too long and eating them with Mingyu feeding me was basically impossible.

"You have a little bit of sauce by your lips," he told me and I tried to remove it but failed. "Here, let me do it."

He then used his thumb to remove it and licked it, which made me hit him both from disgust and embarrassment.

"Hey, I couldn't let it go to waste!" He said chuckling. "Finish quickly so we can both go to sleep at least by four. I brought the scooter."

The next day, when I woke up, I checked my messages and saw that Wonwoo had created a new group chat with Minghao, Mingyu and I and had asked us to meet him at the cafeteria by lunchtime.

After getting ready and making myself look decent, I headed there since it was about one in the afternoon when I was done. When I went inside, I looked for him and saw him with his laptop and a very big stack of papers sitting beside Mingyu and in front of Minghao on one of the round tables.

When I reached them, I sat down on the empty chair that was left between Wonwoo and Minghao. Wonwoo immediately closed his laptop and handed each one of us a set of papers with the name «The rise after the fall» written on the cover.

"What is this, Wonwoo?" Minghao asked him. "Is this the script."

"Yes, it is," he answered. "I have finally finished giving it the finishing touches and I was hoping we could cover the first read as well as the character analysis by today."

"This is only for the first episode of the series?" I asked him looking at the thick stack of papers on my hands. "This is way too long?"

"It's not a TV series, you idiot!" He told me. "It's a two-part movie. This is the first one."

"Oh, so that was it!" Mingyu exclaimed. "Now it makes much more sense."

"But why are the names in English?" Minghao asked. "Won't that be strange."

"The lead characters are Korean-American and the second male lead is Chinese-American. I made it suit all of you in a way to make it less awkward," Wonwoo explained. "I could tell you everything about the characters already, but I think we should read it through so you all come up with the ideas on how the characters personalities are like."

"Seems good!" Minghao said excitedly. "I know I don't have a major role but I can't wait to see how the story develops. I hope my character isn't too miserable."

"Don't worry, he won't be," Wonwoo assured him. "So, shall we do it?"

"You will read the action and the annotations, right?" I asked him and he nodded. "Then let's do it!"

"First of all, let's talk about your character's hidden background, should we?" Wonwoo said and we nodded. "Let's go with Mingyu's character first. He is allegedly a boy in his mid-twenties who has been spending his entire life flying back and forth between Korea and the United States since his parents divorced when he was a child. His father owns an important company in Korea and he has been set to inherit it, so he worked hard almost forgetting about his childhood, making him very cold towards everyone and very snobby."

"Great, I got the bad rich guy," Mingyu sarcastically remarked.

"Now, onto Eunji's character," Wonwoo continued, ignoring Mingyu's comment. "She was adopted by an American family when she was still a baby and has no idea about the culture in general, only knowing some Korean because of the classes she took as a child and a teenager. She too is on her mid-twenties. Her relationship with her adoptive parents isn't bad but she also doesn't have a very strong bond with them since they are almost never at home. She likes to write both novels and music."

"I got the artsy type, yay!" I exclaimed.

"Finally, Minghao's character. "He will be the one who introduces the two lead characters since he knows both of them but from drastically different backgrounds. He is the son of a Chinese businessman who is friends with Mingyu's character's father but during his free time, he likes to spend time at a music studio where Eunji's character usually goes to. Once again, he is on his mid-twenties."

"Okay, I'm quite happy with the character you gave me so far," Minghao said. "I'm getting impatient. Shall we start reading it now?"
