it was an odd evening for genesis jones.
she had stopped by her favorite small bookstore, going by the name of booksmart. the store was ran by a kind old woman, who was starting to gray but her smile made her look as if she was still a child. gen never learned the woman's name, but she figured she might like to someday.
the woman greeted gen as she did every saturday. she pointed to the back, mentioning a new shipment of books. this confused gen, because the store never got in a new shipment. many people donated old books to the store, but they never got new books.
gen asked the woman, "new books? you got new books?" the woman nodded, explaining that they finally raised enough money to buy some, also thanking her (she was her most regular customer).
the blonde girl nodded, prideful for the woman. she then ventured her way into the back shelves, looking at the new books.
the purpose of the girl visiting the bookstore so often was for the sole reason that all the books were donated. she bought each one she did because she likes to imagine what the first person who read it was like. how they looked, how they were, what they did, how they felt as they read the same lines she did, their story.
but today, maybe she'd purchase a brand new book. one that she would donate to the store, so maybe one day someone with the same spirit would come in and imagine her story. gen figured it was useless, she didn't really have a life besides her best friend and dog.
none of the brand new books caught the girl's eye, except one named it.
she looked at the book, the cover almost scaring her. it was white, with the incomplete face of a clown. she read the back, then looked back to the cover. it was a very thick book, but gen knew she could handle over 1,000 pages.
well, a horror book couldn't be too bad, could it?
so, gen took the book to the woman, who scanned it. "this'll take you a while," the woman chuckled, "you still gonna come in every saturday?"
"of course," gen reassured her. "how could i ever even go a week without seeing my favorite lady?" the woman grinned, the smile reaching her eyes. gen took it as an accomplishment, as she always felt people were most beautiful with a smile on their face.
gen left the store with the book placed in the black backpack, walking towards who-knows-where. she took random walks every friday, never knowing where she was to end up.
today, on this odd evening, she ending up in front of a small cafe.
from the inside it looked busy, but gen was able to spot a small table that was perfect for one. she entered the cafe, ordering a medium hot chocolate. she then sat down at the table that looked perfect for one, and pulled out her new book.

it was an odd evening for sadie sink.
she had woken up fairly early, and this was strange for the college girl. on weekends she never woke early, unless she took the early shift. but today, she did not take the early shift.
no, today she had the evening shift. she started off with a shower, then decided that maybe today she would take a walk, just around the neighborhood.
so on this odd day, sadie sink found herself taking a walk around the neighborhood. she took a good look around her, seeing some crazy people, some late people, some exercising people, some yelling people, and so on. it somewhat calmed the girl. sometimes, when you weren't the crazy person or the late person, or the yelling person... new york was a calming place.
sadie found a bench in a nearby park to sit in. now that the calm was over with, she now felt anxious. she felt that something was going to happen today, and today would change every other today she would ever experience. she didn't know where the anxiousness was from, but she hoped it was false. she took one last look around the park before standing up and leaving.
at her small apartment, sadie decided to take a nap, which was also unusual, because sadie never really felt the need to sleep. but today, she just did.
once her slumber was interrupted by her alarm, sadie had to get ready for work. she worked in a small but busy cafe on the side of a random street she couldn't remember.
she put on the base of her uniform, shoving her apron and hat into her yellow backpack. she started on her way to work, the feeling of anxiousness arriving once more. it started as a small pit in her chest, but slowly grew until her whole body was confused and scared.
she arrived at work, and she figured that she would try to forget the feeling.
it never really did go away, though.
a new feeling did replace it, but only when she saw a beautiful girl sitting at a table for one. sadie couldn't explain the feeling, but she wasn't exactly sure she wanted to.
her best friend, millie, noticed her staring at the girl. "cute, right?"
sadie snapped out of the trance, immediately becoming defensive. "no! it's just- u-uh-"
millie giggled, it was fun to watch the pale girl turn red over a simple girl she was staring at. "it's fine. she ordered a hot chocolate," she handed the drink to sadie, "here's your chance. go give it to her!"
sadie looked stunned, but took the drink anyways and made her way over to the girl. once she got to the table, she still hadn't noticed her. sadie looked back to her friend, clueless on what to say or do. if it were a normal customer, she would give them the drink and walk away, but she could tell this wasn't an ordinary customer.
millie sighed, giving the motion to just do it already!
sadie took the advice, placing the cup in front of the girl. she looked up from the book she was reading, and simply thanked her for the drink.
"it's no problem. it's my job! i mean-" sadie mentally face palmed at her awkwardness, but still continued nonetheless. "it is my job, like i get paid for this. you probably already knew that oh my god-"
sadie was cut off by the girl giggling, she didn't know why she was giggling at her idiocies, but she laughed as well. sadie predicted that her face was redder than her hair at this point.
trying to leave her embarrassment behind, sadie turned around and left the girl to her book. once she got back to millie, she actually face palmed.
"please never let me near cute girls again."
