I struck the pouncing goblin unconscious in the face with my shield, blood pouring from its forehead. I stood over the tiny beast and thrust my sword into its malformed face. It's blood sprayed onto my blade as I released the blade from the fleshy tendrils. That was the last goblin in the cave. It was 2 days since my run in with Myne and the 3 week deadline set, and Raphtalia offered to take me out for an easy quest to relax. Goblins, while viscous, evil beings, are inherently stupid and dirty creatures that are so weak even a child with a stick could kill a pack. Goblins are really only dangerous if there's a leader, a hobgoblin, an ogre, chieftain, a horde or some thing similar to those. Raphtalia sliced the arm off an incoming ogre. She then proceeded to stab it in the neck, watching black blood spew from its neck. The ogre weakly grabbed the sword and pushed it out of its neck, yet raphtalia retaliated by thrusting the sword into its heart, black blood pouring all over her petite, finely crafted figure

After collecting the scraps of gold the goblins had on them, we decided to explore the cave as a little leisurely activity. For a cave that reeked of goblins, it was actually a very peaceful and pretty underground pathway. The arching, jagged rock blended beautifully with the dancing shadows. Our torches create a blissful glow along the rough surface of the stone as we marched ever onward into its void-like spiral

"so (Yn), how are you feeling?" asked Raphtalia in a caring tone

"pretty good actually. Exploring an uncharted cave and being with you really works wonders"

i noticed her cheeks go a slight pink "well, that's good to hear"

we continued on until the cave opened up into this huge, dome-like area. In the middle was a strange temple like structure surrounded by a moat and with a crack of light shining on it as if it was begging to be explored. After hopping along a few rocks we were met with the finely crafted stone building. I placed my hand on its smooth, textured patterns, only to recoil back from a sudden blast of misty purple energy erupting from the building. It completely engulfed the temple and soon resettled into the cracks. I got up and dusted myself off. Raphtalia ran up to me, worried

"(Yn)! Are you Ok??"

i smiled at her, but before i could speak a booming disembodied voice echoed throughout my head

"ahh, i see a champion worthy of Gidala's Might has come"

i drew Rosmarinus into a long-sword while activating my shield on my arm gauntlet. Raphtalia jumped backwards in fright, worried i had gone berserk. "Who's there!' i shouted, but all that came back was an angry echo

"my my, you sure do have a fire in you. no need to worry my friend, we are all friends here. I am shargoth, a dragon who's spirit lives on to guide those worthy to gain the power of Gilada, a noble and ancient protector of this land. I was selected to guide worthy combatants to his power, yet few have succeeded in only 1 of 6 section of trials"

"(Yn)! What's going on" shouted raphtalia, worried like a frightened child. However, i was too busy hearing the words of the dragon to focus

"come forth. Place your hands into these two holes in the temple and unimaginable power shall be granted to you."

i did as was told, and place my hands in the holes. A great surge of energy coursed through me as i screamed in pain "hold steady now. You may black out but luckily your companion here will protect you from harm, it seems"

"you what?! im gomna bla-a" my sloppy sentence was cut short by my vision blackening and my mind going blank

(5 hours later)

i woke up, the scent of a late evening catching my nostrils. My vision slowly came to me as the feeling in my body followed. Relaxed yet unmeasurably energized. I felt a great wealth of power course through me. As i started to come to, a phrase kept on looping in my head

You are the strongest being alive, on this plain of existence. You are Gilada's Champion

I rubbed my head, thinking over the strange words in my mind. I looked around to see a forest surrounding me, with a 3 log seats in sight and a hearthly fire brazing in the centre. There seemed to be a few slabs of meat on a spit cooking. As my hearing came to, I heard soft humming coming from above me. I looked up to see Raphtalia' angelic face, eyes closed smiling down at me. She had her hands on my head, stroking my hair gently as she hummed. I also realised my head was in her lap, which gained me a hot red blush all throughout my face. While I wanted to get up, a strong urge told me to stay here and relax. So that's what I did , drifting away peacefully.

( 1 hour later)
The evening grew into dusk as the sky turned into a solemn Amber as the sun slowly settled to sleep on the horizon. Raphtalia was still humming softly, stroking my hair. A smile grew on my face as her fair auburn hair flowed majestically in the air. Raphtalia took her right hand and booped me on the noise
"I know you've been awake for a while silly"
I opened my eyes and gave her a playful smirk "awww, but I wanted for it to go on longer"
She giggled as her tail started to flap sideways. I got up and dusted myself off, yet unfortunately the blanket was propelled too far towards the hearth and it caught fire. I tried to stamp it out as best I could but it would not work. I ended up using water magic to put out the flame, yet the blast did more damage than the fire did. By the end it was little more than a heap of rags
"Great, first the bedroll got stolen and now this"
"Oh dear, looks like we only have 1 blanket and 1 bedroll now..."
"Yeah...goddamn it "
"Oo that reminds me!" Squeaked Raphtalia dashing towards the fire. She took off the spit and elegantly ripped off the steaks onto 2 separate plates. She grabbed two tankards of honeydew brew and put one in front of me. Raphtalia sat next to me as we ate our steaks in near silence
"It's a bit cold" I stated randomly. Raphtalia got up and put a blanket behind my brawny back and scruffy head
"Try not to burn this one this time" she said smiling playfully at me. I chuckled and took a sip of the brew as I stared into the golden amber embers erupting from the hearth. My thoughts were interrupted by a slight nudge to my left
"What is it?" I asked raphtalia, turning to face her
Her cheeks went a bit red as she mumbled something quickly out "I-I'm Sorry i was just cold and I had the urge to go towards the blanket was all"
I gave a small laugh and lifted open the blanket "there's room for 2 in this blanket you know"
Her blushed started intensify "r-r-really?"
"Yeah, I won't mind at all"
She slowly scooted over the log bench as she nudged up against me. I wrapped the blanket around us, doing my best to hide my anxiety. I felt Raphtalia's soft, fluffy tail stroke my lower back as she swiftly wagged her tail in delight. I felt her take off her sword sheath and place it beside her. We finished eating our stakes huddled like this, and as dusk furiously came huddling slowly morphed into cuddling
"Hey (Yn)"
"What's up?"
"What are we going to do about the sleeping arrangement situation?"
"Ughhh" I blurt our scratching my neck "I don't really know"
"Maybe...maybe we could share the sleeping bag?" She asked; barely a whisper and with a dark crimson tainted on her face
"Y-y-Yeah we could do that..."
So after I packed away our plates and Raphtalia sealed us away in a defensive light magic dome we got changed into our sleepwear and went over to the bedroll. I spread out the sleeping bag and climbed into it
"There...really isn't much room here to go side by s-" my sentenced was interrupted by a sudden heavy pressure on my chest. Raphtalia has stepped on my chest and was slowly squatting down to get into the sleeping bag. I closed my eyes for fear of looking at something I shouldn't be seeing. Suddenly, I heard a yelp from raphtalia and I felt something hard slam against my throat. She quickly scurried into the sleeping, laying her head on my chest; face as red as roses
"I...I'm so sorry for accidentally landing on you! And I'm so sorry for stepping on you without permission and I'm so sorry there isn't enough room and and-" before she could talk her way into a panic attack a put a finger to her soft lips and made a small hushing sound
"It's ok Raphtalia. These things happen. Let's just focus on getting some sleep now k?"
"O-Ok"
And with that we both prepared for our timeless slumber. I wrapped my hands around Raphtalia's stomach and smiled as I closed my eyes, ready for the day ahead
