They reached the deserted village just as the sun was fully coming up over the mountains that surrounded the valley of Camelot.
They all stopped in the village square and waited for instructions. Leo glanced around at her fellow sins and saw that they all looked as haggard as she felt. They all had had a rough night after the unexpected Dark Sorcerers appeared on the giants' side.
The captain stepped up in front of them. Leo noted that even though he'd fought just as hard, or harder, than all of them, he still had a boyish grin on his dirty face as he addressed them. "As we told you, Arthur and I had everyone evacuate this village so we could use it as a base to fall back on and civilians wouldn't be involved in our crossfire. We've been given permission to use whatever we need or desire." He motioned over his shoulder on the opposite side of the square. "There's two common bathhouses behind me-one for women and one for men. They may not be fancy, but it's better than staying covered in blood and filth all day. So split up, get cleaned up, and then I suggest you all find somewhere to crash for a couple of hours. Whether together or separate." He winked at Elizabeth, who went a dark shade of red and ducked her head, hiding her face with her long hair. He looked back to the rest of them. "We'll meet back here an hour before sundown to discuss the new plan before we head out to finish this. Any questions?"
"No, sir."
He nodded in satisfaction. "Good, now go and get cleaned up. I don't want to look at you dirty bastards anymore." He motioned Diane to come with him and as they walked past Leo, she heard him discussing her putting up an earth wall around the village for the day, just for extra precaution.
Leo rubbed a hand across her forehead and when she pulled it away, the skin of her palm was dark red with congealed blood and dirt. She looked over to Elizabeth, who had come up beside her, and gave her a tired smile. "Let's go and take a bath, princess."
Elizabeth nodded silently and followed her and Merlin across the square toward the women's bathhouse. Leo held open the door to the dark, humid room for her to enter, followed by Merlin, and then put her hand out as Ban attempted to follow them in. She shoved him backward and he gave her an injured look as she said sternly, "Not you, pervert. Not this time." She motioned toward the other bathhouse where King had just disappeared from view. "Go and clean up yourself. You're an ugly bastard even on a good day, and today is not one of those days."
He gave her a smirk and lifted his shoulder in a slight shrug as he sauntered away. "Your loss, L." He said over his shoulder, giving her a suggestive wink as he disappeared into the men's bathhouse.
Leo rolled her eyes and ducked into the bathhouse. It was dimly lit inside, the only light coming from outside through thin slits cut into the walls. Elizabeth and Merlin were already neck deep in the small, warm water filled pool etched into the stone floor. Leo lifted her armor off over her head and set it in a pile against the wall, stripping off her armored suit next. She stood in the humid air in her chemise and leggings for a moment and then shucked them off as well, adding them to her pile.
She waded out into the water and took a seat next to Elizabeth on the stone ledges that ran around the bathing pool. She leaned her head back against the side of the pool and closed her eyes, letting out a sigh.
"Are you alright, Leo? Did everything go okay for you and Ban?" Elizabeth spoke up from beside her, putting a hand on her bare shoulder.
Leo opened her eyes and turned her head to look at the girl. She gave her a slight smile. "It was fine. We weren't expecting the giants to have Demons on their side, but we handled them well enough anyway." She flicked her hand at the girl, sprinkling her with water. "What about you? You stay out of harm's way?"
Elizabeth pushed her light hair out of her eyes. "Yeah, I guess. I just feel like I didn't do much. No one was seriously injured so I wasn't of much use to you all."
Leo elbowed her under the water. "Hey, you keep the captain happy, and that's the most important job of all for all our well being."Elizabeth laughed, a tinkling, pretty sound, and gave Leo an appreciative smile. "I guess. Thank you, Leo. You've always been so kind to me."
Leo glanced over at Merlin, who was still silent, and lifted her chin toward her. "Merlin. How was it with you and Gowther?"
Merlin gave her a small smile, her dark hair covering one of her eyes, and said quietly, "I suppose it went as well as could be expected. I don't think you and the captain let many get through to us though, so we didn't do much either."
Leo nodded. "Well, I assume that will change now that we know they have Dark Sorcerer's on their side. We're going to need you two at the front tonight I would think."
Elizabeth yawned beside Leo, and Leo glanced over at her. "Now come on, we've all had a long couple of days. And tonight won't be any better. So let's get cleaned up and get some sleep."The women all finished cleaning up as best they could and exited the bath, pulling their clothes over their wet, steaming bodies, as no one had thought to leave any towels in the bathhouse on their departure.
Leo pushed open the door and the bright sunlight streamed in, illuminating the water in the pool and causing it to gleam a bright blue. She glanced over at Elizabeth as they walked outside, Merlin ahead of them. "Goodnight, princess." She gave her a smile and a little wave.
The girl returned the smile as she walked past her, headed toward where Meliodas stood talking to Arthur on the other side of the square. "Goodnight, Leo. Sweet dreams."
Leo watched her leave, still standing in front of the bathhouse, lost in her thoughts, when she felt a heavy arm on her shoulders.
Ban stood beside her, his bare chest gleaming with water in the sunlight, as he used his tunic to dry off his wet, dripping hair. He glanced over at her. "What're you looking at?"
Leo met his gaze, trying to avoid looking at the muscles rippling under his bare skin as much as possible, and said, "Nothing. I was just talking to Elizabeth."
"Hmmm." He thought for a moment and then gave her a grin. "Wanna bunk together?"
Leo rolled her eyes. "Fine. But no funny business, Foxy. I just want to go to sleep." She shoved his arm off her shoulders. "Come on. Let's go."
