the day was spent shopping around in odd stores for things she and draco would need for the school year. she was actually surprised at the amount of supplies and clothing that narcissa had bought her. it was the first time in years that she had new clothes. all her uniforms for ilvermorny were used or old because her mother could hardly afford to buy new ones.

"thank you for today." marcella stood across from her aunt, her voice soft and her eyes cast down at her hands. draco had gone to his room and lucius was out with a friend on "business" is what narcissa told her.

"no need to thank me, marcella. you're family and i know the boys don't seem very kind, but they're just used to not having anyone else around. they'll come around. i'm sure of it." narcissa stepped forward and engulfed her niece in a hug, squeezing her tightly. marcella's lip quivered at the feeling of a mother's love. she wrapped her arms around her aunt and a few tears slipped from her eyes. she sniffled and wiped her cheeks as narcissa moved away.

narcissa gave her a sympathetic smile and patted her cheek gently. her eyes were full of pity, knowing the girl was having a hard time without her mother.

"i know you miss your mother, but she'd want you to be strong." narcissa gave her one last look before walking towards the kitchen. marcella wiped her tears and started towards her room. a new wave of courage hit her and she was determined to read more of the journals that belonged to her mother. her mind swirled with thoughts about the "he" the journals spoke of. who was he? what did he want with her mother?

marcella made it to her room and grabbed the heavy box, lifting it onto her bed and getting comfortable. she grabbed the one she had read the day before, opening it to the second page. her eyes scanned cautiously over the words, most of it being about how lucille felt like she didn't belong with her family. the blonde frowned, knowing exactly how her mother felt. them being the only malfoys who didn't care about things like money and blood purity made them stand out, and it wasn't a pleasant feeling.

her eyes stopped on a journal entry that seemed interesting. she bit her lip and felt a shiver run down her spine. dropping the journal, marcella stood from the bed and moved towards her closet. she reached inside and grabbed a sweater, slipping it on. blaming the shiver on the cold and not on fear, she went back to sit on the bed. her eyes found the entry once again, rereading it.

"september 2, 1979. i tried to speak with my brother, lucius, about my pregnancy. he refuses to speak to me. he thinks i'm a traitor to the malfoy name. i asked him to meet me somewhere and his exact words were "you won't follow the dark lord, so you'll die by the dark lord's hand." i'm afraid for my life.

marcella didn't realize that she was crying until a tear fell onto the page, smearing the word "afraid". she wiped at her eyes, pushing herself to continue on.
