"absolute nutter, that one is! what kind of accent is that? she definitely doesn't belong here." marcella knew that the day would come that someone would make fun of her for being an outside, but she didn't think it would happen the morning of her first day of classes. she bit her cheek and glanced over at the group of third years who were casting dirty glares at her.

"she hangs around malfoy and zabini. i bet they just feel sorry for her and keep her around for entertainment." a dark-haired girl sneered and marcella clenched her jaw, trying not to think too much about their words. but a part of her felt like they were telling the truth; that blaise and draco just felt bad for her.

speaking of blaise, the two of them hadn't spoken much since that night three days ago. a few words spoken here and there, but most of her time was spent alone or wandering around the school. draco had been distracted by pansy and he hadn't hung around her much. maybe those kids were right.

"what a freak!" marcella slammed her book shut and pushed it into her book bag, suddenly not in the mood to eat anymore. as she stood from her seat, draco stalked up and his cold glare was aimed at the group of third years.

"keep it up and you won't be able to go anywhere in this school without being called names. i will make your life a living hell the next time i hear you speak about my cousin like that." the children flinched as the realization that marcella and draco were related. she guessed none of them had actually believed or listened to the news that spread like wildfire.

marcella felt something stir inside her and she let a smirk take over her features, liking the way the third years looked at her in an entirely new way. she allowed draco to guide her out of the hall, a newfound confidence in her step.

"didn't know being a malfoy could gain me such respect." she spat the last word, knowing none of it was respect. in fact, it was just younger slytherins being desperate to be accepted by someone who was deemed "higher" than them.

"welcome to my world. it's nice at times, but honestly, all of the slytherins are just arse-kissers." she giggled at that and the two of them made their way to the first class of the day. defense against the dark arts which was taught by none other than professor umbridge. the thought of having that childish, unqualified woman as her professor made her want to scream. she had a feeling she wouldn't be learning to defend herself much in this class.

"thank you for standing up for me." she mumbled and draco gave her what she guessed he considered a smile.

"that day at my house wasn't a lie. nobody is going to mess with my family." she gave him a grateful smile at his words and the two entered the classroom. he took a seat near the back, offering her the seat next to him. she was thankful that pansy wasn't here to complain about not sitting beside her boyfriend.
