marcella malfoy turned the note over in her hand quite a few times, biting anxiously at her lips. she had woken up to the note at the end of her bed, folded neatly and reading "miss marcella malfoy". she let out a heavy sigh and let her eyes scan over it once again.
"dear marcella, i would love it if you paid me a visit after supper tonight. i know you have questions about your family and i hope i can answer them to the best of my ability. oh, and please do not let your cousin know of your plans. i reckon lucius wouldn't be too pleased with me sharing this information with you. - professor albus dumbledore.
she folded the letter and placed it in her bag, glancing up as draco came down the stairs into the common room. he gave her a look, but no words were passed between them. she jumped up from her seat and followed after him, determined to fix things with her cousin.
"draco, you can't go on ignoring me forever." her voice was full of sadness and he tried to speed up, hoping she'd give up but she was relentless.
"i'm not ignoring you. i'm simply not speaking to you."
"oh, shut up, smart ass. that's the same thing." she grabbed his arm and forced him to stop walking. he gave her a harsh look but she ignored it, keeping her tight grip on his arm. "look, i'm sorry for the other day. i regret it, especially now that both you and blaise aren't talking to me."
"you don't realize how deep these house rivalries run, marcella. those gryffindors think they're so much better than us. you've only just come to hogwarts, you haven't dealt with what we have. so just trust me when i say, they aren't worth it." she opened her mouth to speak but he walked away, leaving her even more sad than before. she wished she could explain to draco that she and harry were similar; how she felt connected to him, like she's known him her whole life. it was strange to her, and she knew draco would call her nuts or disown her. marcella crossed her arms and continued to walk down the hall. she passed the paintings on the wall, studying them and watching them move. some of them smiled at her, others shunned her out but she took no mind. she was lost in the thought of what answers dumbledore could provide her with. maybe he knew her father, or knew of the sibling she had.
"marcella!" she turned her head, a smile crossing her features as harry jogged up to her. he was slightly out of breath and his hair was disheveled, but he still gave her a halfhearted smile. she glanced around, making sure no peeping eyes were watching them before turning back to the gryffindor boy.
"harry, what are you doing all alone? i never see you without weasley and granger." her lip curled as she spoke ron's name, remembering the words he had thrown at her a few days ago. harry noticed her reaction but paid no mind to it, knowing ron had acted out towards her.
