marcella found herself dressed in a casual black dress, sitting in the common room beside draco the next morning. the two cousins were awaiting their friends to arrive so they could all walk to breakfast together. the night before she cried herself to sleep, having to deal with the aftermath this morning. she had attempted to cover the bags around her eyes with muggle makeup but she knew draco could tell something was up, considering how nice he was being to her.
"i can show you around the school today since i know it can be confusing. classes don't start till monday so you have quite enough time to figure your way around." draco stated and she nodded, sending him a grateful smile.
"morning." the two blondes brought their eyes to blaise zabini who looked like he had awoken from the dead. she placed a hand over her mouth, trying to keep from laughing while as draco didn't bother to hide his amusement at his friend. he bellowed out a laugh and shook his head.
"what did i tell you about drinking, zabini?" his voice sounded stern but marcella could tell he was only joking. blaise rolled his eyes and fell on the chair across from them.
"never happening again. my head is pounding." marcella frowned sympathetically before reaching into her bag and pulling out a bottle of pills. she popped off the cap and poured two into her palm before holding them out to blaise. he looked at them oddly before slowly taking them.
"i brought them from home. yes, it's muggle medicine but they do a hell of a good job." both draco and blaise look disgusted at the thought of muggles and their medicine, but blaise downed them nonetheless.
"why do you have muggle medicine?" blaise questioned as marcella zipped her bag up once more. she didn't feel like explaining that she got such bad headaches after crying so much over her mother's death.
"no reason. now, can we please go to breakfast? i'm starving." draco chuckled and stood from the couch, waiting for marcella and blaise to follow in suit. she hurriedly kept pace with the two boys, eyes scanning her surroundings once they made it to a new hall or turned a corner. she kept a close eye on the details of every hall they went through, noting things that would help her remember her way around.
"have i ever told you that i like your accent?" blaise's voice made her jump slightly, not expecting him to be so close. he let out a chuckle, his eyes light with amusement and marcella bit her lip to keep from smiling.
"no, you haven't but do flatter me." the pair had fallen back a few strides from draco, who pretended not to notice. after a lot of thinking the previous night, he realized that maybe what his cousin needed was someone like blaise in her life. he clearly had a thing for her and he was nice enough. it could help with the pain of losing her mother, draco thought.
