A Cinderella night, not life

Prompt:

Write about a birthday party, a wedding, a baptism — any kind of celebration where you were with family or friends or both. Write about the colors you remember, the sounds (and how they made you feel) and the tastes you remember from any of those events. Did these things make you feel good? Did you experience any new foods? Did you meet any new people?

Sometimes, beyond our control, festivities can take a turn for the worse. Maybe that happened to you or someone you know. Whatever happened, be it great or not so great, let’s write about it!

My Poem:

Music pounds through the walls, ratttling the glasses.

Haitian music one second, american the other.

The DJ was good at his job, I must admit.

He knew how to get the wall flowers moving,

though he might have gotten some help.

It was intressting to see grown adults partying like teenagers.

The women wore skimpy outfits and the men were enjoying the sight.

My aunt was the life of the party,

not surprissing since she’s the “rebel” of the 3 women who raised me.

Her charisma could make you do things you’d never think of.

Her smile would make you see stars.

I sat in a corner and just watched.

I am not the social butterfly my aunt was.

I wouldn’t even be here if It wasn’t the only way of escaping the silence.

The music was not what I listened to,

and watching adults dance the ‘soulja boy was not my idea of fun

but It kept me from the silence of my house

and the confined spaces of my room.

Atleast there were other teens.

Standing just as awkward as any kid would be in this situation,

I decided to help.

Gathering them all up in the yard, “You want to call a few friends and have our own party?”

I did not give them time to answer,

I was a big sister and an older cousin,

taking charge was instinct. Still, it was strange.

I toke out my phone and called a few friends,

the fun started happening. The magic was there. I almost felt I was free.

Then morning came and I was once again a pumpkin.
