p.o.v: Peggy

Skinny beams of sunlight coming through the cracks in the drapes made my eyes flutter open and detach from the sleep that previously had control of them. I followed the illuminated flecks of dust for a moment before the rest of my body came out of its slumber.

Squirming around in the sheets, I yawned and turned to my side, draping my arm over what I assumed was the rest of the bed, but instead it landed on an elevated piece of skin.

My eyes shot open, and I saw a human-sized lump occupying the other side of the bed. The shriek that escaped me was loud and panicked as I scrambled out of the sheets, my sleeping partner startling awake.

"What the hell, Peggy?"

I turned and saw Howard propped up on his eyebrows, his hair in shambles.

"Howard! What are you doing in my bed?" I asked in aggravated shock.

"You mean my bed?" He retorted with a tired frown, and he rubbed his eyes.

As I tried to gain control of my breathing, I realized I was actually sleeping in Howard's room. After last night's... events, Steve and I both agreed that with the weather and the late time, it was safest for me to just stay here for the night, although with every step I took towards Howard's room, the more my chest seemed to ache at the distance I was creating between us. And after what felt like hours of tossing and turning, I finally fell asleep— and that must've been when this lad decided to join me.

The air-conditioned room chilled my skin, and as I grabbed for the robe laying on the loveseat, I noticed Howard was without a shirt. "Where are all of your clothes?" I asked him, praying that the only articles he was missing were above his waist.

"Probably.." Howard made a humming noise as he pretended to think. "On the corner of 5th and Morgan," he concluded with a sickening grin, and I could literally feel the vomit rising in my throat.

"God— didn't you think to notice when you came home that someone was already in your bed?" I asked, my voice strained.

"No!" He replied in a "of course not" tone. Then his half-asleep eyes left my face and traveled somewhere lower. "Though I wish I did." Another crooked smile.

I gasped as I noticed the open gap in the robe, and I tied it tighter. "Excuse you. I didn't exactly have a lot of options for pajamas last night. This was all I could find," I informed him hotly.

He quirked an eyebrow and chuckled as he looked away. "Yeah, those are definitely not pajamas."

My mouth hardened in embarrassment as I realized what could possibly be on these clothes. I could only hope that it was hair and dust from laying on Howard's floor.

"So what are you doin here anyway?" He asked curiously as he pushed away the sheets and began to climb out of bed, out of which I abruptly turned around after seeing a glimpse of a thigh.

"Uhm," I said, nose wrinkling as I tried to word this without coming off suspicious, but I found it especially difficult. "I was talking with Steve and we... lost track of time, so, we thought it best if I stayed over instead." I grimaced at how that sounded.

I heard the rustling of clothes and the opening of drawers and guessed it was Howard getting dressed. "Gees. What the heck were you guys doing?"

Oh, I was just discovering his time travel suit and learning how he's come back in time to be with me.
