I walked into work upset, I slept through my alarm and had no time to shower. I had to be at my mandatory clinic duty by 10:30. I ran through the doors to the locker room and grabbed my lab coat. I rushed over to the clinic.

10:32

damn, so close.

I walked over to the nurse for a patient file. I flipped through it, 28 year old man with the sniffles. This is going to be a long day.

"Frank Harvey, exam room 2" I called into the waiting room. A man about 6.2 with puffy eyes and a plaid shirt followed me into the exam room and sat down on the table.

"It all started a few months ago when I went on a really cold camping trip" He said

I could already tell that the guy just had seasonal allergies so I pretended to be interested in his boring camping story and prescribed him with some anti histamines. Right as I sent him out House walked in.

"We have a case" he said

"Ill be up later, I'm in the middle of clinic duty" I said annoyed wishing I wasn't

"10 year old girl..." he started completely disregarding how busy I really am.

"House, Im really busy Ill be up in a half hour. If I don't finish up my clinic duty Cuddy will have my ass"

"The 10 year old had a heart attack" He said

"what? that's not possible"

"Well clearly it is, now forget about the clinic duty and come upstairs"

"fine" I walked up the the front desk to hand in my patient files

"11:04 Dr Kingston checks out" I said to the nurse

2 hours later

after the meeting I went to check on the patient, we suspected that she was taking diet pills given to her by her mother and that caused the heart attack. I walked into the room, the girls mother was sitting by her bed looking worried as the girl was watching the tv in her room. Her mother looked so concerned like she cared but what kind of a mother gives her daughter diet pills?

"Hello, Im Dr. Kingston I work for doctor House"

"Hi" the girl said, she looked so worried. Her mother said nothing she just stared.

"What is wrong with my girl" she finally said

"we have reason the believe that she has been taking diet pills" I replied

her mom nodded her head along, listening to what I was saying

"we also have reason to believe that you gave them to her" I said and regretted it immediately

"WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY, I WOULD NEVER GIVE MY DAUGHTER DIET PILLS. I CANT BELIEVE YOU ARE ACCUSING ME OF THIS. I WANT ANOTHER DOCTOR ON MY DAUGHTERS CASE!" She yelled

"but miss, I assure you you are not going to get the same amount of medical care from any other doctor"

"I don't care, Im going to complain to your boss" she stormed out

I smiled at the girl reassuringly, she shouldn't have had to see that. she is already going through enough. right as I turned around I saw Foreman and Taub waiting outside the room.

"damn, they saw that" I huffed under my breath

"its not diet pills" foreman said as I left the patients room

"WHAT, then why did I have to do that"

"we thought it was the pills" Taub shrugged

"well you were wrong and now her mom does not want me on the case"

We walked down the hall

"If it's not the diet pills than what is it?" I asked

"We don't know" Foreman replied

"Great so we're back to stage one" I said harshly
"Sorry that was harsh, I'm just pissed at that mom for kicking me off the case, she's complaining to Cuddy right now. I already skipped clinic duty today, now I have a complaint!" I apologized

Then we all heard a scream come from the patients room.

"WE NEED A DOCTOR IN HERE" the nurse screamed

I ran in

"what is it!" I asked urgently

"she's seizing" The nurse said

Foreman was already one step ahead of me, he injected her leg and she stopped seizing

"Shit, what does this mean" Asked Taub

"it means this is much worse than we thought" I replied

3 days later

"its been three days, we've run blood cultures, Put her through an MRI, started her on three different courses of treatment and still nothing" I said, exhausted

"what, are you suggesting we give up" Kutner replied

"no i'm just frustrated"

"it could still be cancer" Wilson said

There was a moment of silence

"How tall is her mom" I asked

"uhhh, 6.1, why?"

"she's only 4.9, she has stunted growth"

"what are you talking about?"

"stunted growth, blood clots, high bp"

"Cushings" I said

"what?" Replied House

"its Cushings disease"

"King, C'mon there's no way that its Cushings" Wilson and Taub said in sync

god, I hate it when people call me King

"Yes it is, it fits perfectly"

"She isn't showing necrosis" House said

"in rare cases you can skip that stage"

"King listen to me, its not Cushings" Taub said

"well do you have a better idea?"

They all thought but eventually gave in.

"start her on treatment for Cushings"

we started her on the treatment for Cushings dIsease and she started getting better within 24 hours.

"turns out you were right" Wilson said behind me. I was watching the patient and I guess he wanted to take a look

"yeah, duh" I said in a joking manner, he laughed

"anyway, Ill see you tomorrow" he said sweetly

"see you tomorrow"
