Fire fascinates me. The way the flames danced in the pit. I could feel them on my face as I stared into it as my long black hair dangled in front of my face and my eyes reflecting off the fire.
"Miss?" A girl asked me. I turned to her with my tired expression. "Tinkerbell wants permission to enter camp." She informed me.
"Granted." I sighed, finally giving into her pleads. The guards led her to me and stood there until she sat down. "You can go." I told them. They saluted me before running off back to the edge of the barrier.
"I just wanted to apologize for earlier." Tink sadly smiled. I grabbed a stick from the ground, fixing the crackling fire, moving around the wood. "Riley?" She called.
"It's fine." I only said. She sighed, standing up.
"I worry about you." She confessed. I looked at my feet.
"You don't need to. I'm just fine." I hissed. She frowned with a hurt expression on my face, rubbing my back. I flinched at her touch, backing away from her as I stood up from my spot. Her eyes widened at my sudden movements. "Guards! Take her away!" I shouted. The guards rushed up to Tinkerbell, grabbing both of her arms and hauling her out of camp.
"Riley!" She yelled at me. I directed my attention back at the fire while sitting down on the log. "You'll regret this!"
"Bring her back to her treehouse and make sure she stays there." I ignored her words, giving the girls who were guarding orders while still keeping my eyes on the fire. I heard Tinkerbell grunt as if she was struggling against the girls arms. I smiled at that because I trained them to be strong. All of a sudden, there was nothing but silence for a while until I heard branches breaking around my camp along with small footsteps. My ears perked up and my head was spinning in all directions. I searched the ground for a weapon or something but, nothing was to be found. The footsteps came closer until a boy was revealed. He looked young, maybe 11 or 12. His eyes were fearful and determined. My hand illuminated with magic and I curled my fingers. He lifted into the air, looking around at the ground.
"Put me down!" He shouted at me with tears in his eyes. I rolled my eyes at him. Another weakling. Great.
"Who are you and how did you get through the barrier? No boy can pass it." I snapped, not following his demands. He stayed silent, tears streaming down his face. "Are you a Lost Boy?" He didn't answer. I'm scaring the poor kid. I sighed, putting him down. I pointed for him to sit next to me. He timidly shuffled over to me, slowly sitting down. I comfortably sat next to him, staring him down. He leaned back at my movements. "What's your name, boy?"
"Henry." He spoke with a little voice. Where have I heard that name? Henry? Henry! My eyes widened and I turned around.
"Ace!" Ace was my second in command. She was sort of like Felix but, less annoying. She ran up, saluting me. "Check the damn cages!" She quickly nodded and rushed off. "Henry."
"What?" He asked.
"How'd you get here?" I worriedly said.
"I was kidnapped by these people named Greg and Tamara." My eyes darkened at those names.
"Do you know why?" I asked him. He shook his head and begun to shake. I put my hand on his shoulder which made him calm down. "Hey, it's okay."
"I want to go home." He cried, cuddling up to me. I was taken back by this. What should I do? Comfort him. I don't wanna look soft.
"Umm?" I stuttered, awkwardly wrapping my arms around him. I saw Ace with a sword in her hand, quickly running to me. She rose her eyebrow at the sight of Henry in my arms. I glared at her.
"Felix and Adam are gone." She got to the important stuff. My face hardened in anger.
"Well then, get them back!" I yelled in a stern voice. Girls scattered into piles in the woods, leaving 10 behind to defend camp. I pulled Henry off of me, making him look at me. "Henry, listen up! Pan wants your heart." I put my hand on his chest where he heart is. His hand went onto mine, making me pull back. "Don't give him it, no matter what!"
"Why?" He asked with a curious intention. Should I tell him? Pan will be pissed...HA!
"He wants to become immortal and with your heart, he will succeed." I explain, pointing to his heart. He looked down at it with concern.
"Are you immortal?" He blurted. I didn't say anything. "You are, aren't you?!"
"Indeed." I only said. "She died for a good cause though!" He stood up and started to back away from me.
"How do I know you're not lying to me?" Henry snapped. I sprung up from the log.
"I'm not lying." I interjected. I rushed over to him and kneeled down to his level. "I can promise you that but, I need you to do something for me. Run, Henry." He stared at me with mixed emotions. "Run Boy Run!" He pried away from me and I felt a shocked of energy thrive throughout my body. I slowly got up and watched him disappear into the jungle. I sighed and started to walk towards my tent but stopped when his little voice pipe up. I whipped around and saw him, standing there.
"Don't worry. My family is coming." He lastly promised and then was gone for good. For the first time in my life, I actually believe in a boy's word.
