*Hello Kiddos, it's me. I haven't died, I just went on vacation. Might I say missing school at the beginning if the year and possible jeopardizing my education was totally worth it. Ten out of ten highly recommend going to see Hadestown because that show was totally worth fucking up my attendance record. What's also totally worth it is reading all of the Harry Potter books and pushing off regular school work because you'll be more entertained. Thanks JK Rowling for the fabulous form of entertainment, all rights go to her.*

Draco Malfoy had a difficult relationship with his mother. He loved her with every ounce of his being, but they rarely spoke. After his father was sent to Azkaban, Draco’s mother shut herself off from the world. Narcissia spent most of her life devoted to her husband and within moments, he was ripped away from her. Even though their relationship faced it’s hardships, she still loved her husband and she felt lost without him. Draco only saw his mother express her sorrows a few times. Months after his father was sent away, Draco would hear the soft sounds of his mother weeping wafting through the manor. Even then, she did it behind closed doors.

Today was the first time they had spoken in weeks an in an attempt to keep this meeting civil, he invited his mother out to a fancy lunch at her favorite restaurant.

“Hello, mother. How have you been,” Draco said stiffly.

“Alright. I had lunch with the Greengrasses yesterday.”

This couldn’t be good. Whenever Draco’s mother mentioned the Greengrass family, they got into a heated argument about Draco’s future. She believed either one of the Greengrass sisters would make a wonderful little wife for Draco and he wanted to marry someone he loved. He thought of the Greengrass sisters as his own family. They grew up together and treated each other like brother and sisters. Draco had no intention of marrying his sister.

“Oh, that must have been fun,” Draco said sarcastically.

“As a matter of fact, it was. We thought after this whole law nonsense is over, you and Daphne could get married. It might be a bit unconventional but I think Daphne and you would make a great pair.”

This is your chance. Just tell her. What’s the worst that could happen?

“Mother,” Draco addressed firmly, “I need to talk to you about the law.”

Narcissa smirked, “Alright son, go ahead.” Her son only used this tone with her when he wanted to discuss something ‘serious’.

“I’m getting married in a few months and I would like you to come.”

Narcissa raised an eyebrow, “And who do you think you’re getting married to? You’re only obligated to have a child with the partner the ministry assigned. You don’t have to marry the little mutt.”

“I want to marry her, mother. I love her,” Draco said sincerely. There was a little sparkle behind his grey eyes that made Narcissa sick to her stomach.

“Wipe that goofy grin off of your face,” She snapped, “Who is she. I know it’s someone from outside of our circle.”

“Hermione Granger.”

Narcissa let out a dark chuckle, “You can’t be serious, Darco.”

Draco took a deep breath and looked towards his mother, “I’m very serious. We’re getting married in September. I know our relationship is not the best but I would still appreciate it if you came to the wedding. I’m only getting married once.”

“I came around to the idea of an illegitimate spawn running amuck but this is going too far, Draco. You are the last Malfoy heir, if you only have children with that thing you will destroy everything that our family spent centuries trying to protect,” the regal woman yelled.

Draco took a deep breath and tried to process his mother’s words. He knew his mother had a deep seeded hatred towards muggle borns. All of his family members did, he had just hoped that two wars had changed his mother in the slightest. But they hadn’t. His mother’s heart was still filled with the same hatred and disdain towards a group of people who couldn’t control how they were born.

“Mother, I love Hermione and there is nothing that can change that. I also love you too and I really want you at my wedding,” Draco pulled a silver envelope out of his pocket and handed it to his mother, “Here’s the invitation. You don’t have to come but it would mean the world to me if you did.” With those words, Draco rose from his chair and left his mother to ponder over their conversion.
