Catherine POV

I was so excited to see Teddy the next day

I woke up earlier than usual, cleaned the house, swept outside and made breakfast then got ready for school

I kissed my mom goodbye then headed for the bus stage to board a bus where it lead to my school

I got off the bus when it reached the junction that connects the main road to the road that leads to my school

I was nervous

Would he actually remember me?

Did he notice me?

I'm sure he did, we were sitting next to each other in the minibus right?

He obviously did

I just hopped he noticed me, that would make things easy

I'd maybe try to talk to him if he gave any signs of remembering

I had a lot of thoughts and fantasies about him as I walked to school

Upon reaching the gate, I entered heading straight to my class

I left my bag on my desk and stood beside the door my back leaning to the wall waiting for him to pass by

A few students stood in small groups chilling in the corridors so I blended in pretty much okay

For the first time I had that confidence to talk to him

Students passed by but I couldn't see any sign of him, I saw his friend and had the urge to ask him about Teddy

Who was I to ask him anyway, so I stayed

The bell rang and he still didn't show up, I went in class feeling down not having seen him

I pushed the disappointment away, I had to focus on the teachings

 ***

"He asked me to hang out with him again you know" I heard Aimee say during sports period

Form 1&2 usually did sports together since we're juniors, we form a team against the seniors form 3&4

Today was the first day of sports period

"Why can't you just hang out with him then" Jessica from my class said

Aimee and her group consisted of her, Jodie and Deborah from form 2, Jessica and Georgia from my class. They were really popular in our school

Jodie was barely seen with them though, she was the ditching class type

They were pretty and belonged to rich families

Everyone was currently resting and waiting for the second run before we practiced netball

Georgia and Jessica sat on the ground while Deborah bent her hands on her knees panting while Aimee stood one arm akimbo

"Ew noo-" Aimee started but was cut off by Deborah

"To actually see him up close , he's kinda cute" she said sitting next to Georgia

"No girls he's cute yea but I'm not that interested in him besides he's not my class" Aimee said

"You might regret denying him in future you know" Jessica said standing up

"Yea just give him a chance" Georgia said

"Me?" She said laughing "I don't think so"

The coach used his whistle and everyone got up and headed towards him to be given positions

I couldn't believe what I just heard

Here I was wanting to actually be liked by him and there she was playing with her chances

If only I got a chance like hers, there was no way I'd waste it

The coach gave us positions and we started playing netball while he went to the boys to tell them what to do

 ***

I went home disappointed that day, Terrence never showed up

I hoped that he'd come the next day but he didn't which was very disappointing too

To actually think about it, he was not his normal self the last time I saw him, he seemed affected by something

I hope he's okay

Skipping school for 2 days means something serious

He must've lost somebody in his family

"Are you okay?" Mom asked me

"Yea I'm fine" I answered, we were making supper, it was Saturday which meant movie night

"Mukuganiza chani?" (What are you thinking) she asked

"Palibe (nothing) ...it's just that my friend sanabwele(didn't come) for 2 days"

"Really?" She eyed me suspiciously "as far as I know you don't have any friend at school"

"He's not really my friend" I sighed

"He?" She asked stirring the rice "boyfriend?"

"Nooo...whaat? Mah ..no not really" I chuckled nervously

"He must be special for you to zone out like that" she came and sat next to me "you know you can tell me anything...  I'm your mother, who are you going to tell these things if you don't tell me" she said

That little speech made me open up, it was true. I had no one to talk to except her

"Mom" I sighed "he is ummmm... my...m-my crush" I felt weird saying it

You know how weird it is to talk about these things with parents

"He really doesn't know me though... he is in form 2"

I told her how I started liking him, how I'm close but he never notices me and what happened from the time Terrence froze at the school corridors to him not showing up

"Don't worry about him he's going to be fine, he obviously has people who care about him enough to notice ... besides I don't want this boy making my little 14 year old girl failing at school" she said serving the food

I laughed softly "no he can't"

"If you say so" she took her plate going to the sitting room, I grabbed mine following her "he'll be fine okay don't stress about it ...he has his family to take care of him"

"Yeah" my voice came out low

She was right, he had a family and friends who would always be there for him

I stopped thinking too much about it and enjoyed the time I had with my mother

"So what movie should we watch?...Birdbox? Honey 3 ...Dance camp ...After- "

"Honey 3" I answered

We had already watched honey 3 but I couldn't get enough of it

I loved dancing and watching dance movies was fun for me

"Honey 3 it is" she said

I tried some of the moves as the characters danced, mom tried and ended up looking funny causing me to laugh in an un-lady like manner

We both laughed together in happy moods
