It's Complicated

Chapter 29

Arabella pov

I don't know how long I stood in the kitchen staring in silence.

"I have to tell him" I muttered quietly.

"Hey girls what's up?" Nathan has woken up and started looking around for breakfast. I instantly tensed up. I didn't know what the best thing to do was I could tell Nathan first or wait to tell Sam.

We both stood in silence not daring to answer Nathan. He looked round when he didn't get an answer and walked forward towards the table. My heart instantly started beating faster.

"Is something wrong?" He looked between us.

"No no everything fine" Chloe tried to turn his attention elsewhere I was still to frozen to do anything. 

Nathan's eyes finally landed on the newspaper laid out on the table top. I saw him reach for it with a confused look in his eyes. I fought the urge to run as I waited. Running wouldn't do any good.

"What is this?" Nathan turned the paper to me anger in him eyes as he now fully understood the situation.

"I um"

"You and Hunter?" Nathan fists screwed the corner of the paper up as he threw it back onto the table "Really Bella I thought he was like a brother to you? you know he would screw anything"

"It's not like that" I found my voice even if it came out very quiet.

"What do you mean it isn't like that? What you think he loves you?" Nathan looked murderous
As he let out a humourless laugh "Has it been going on for long?" He was shouting and I flinched at his tone.

"Not really, it's complicated" I couldn't even look him in the eyes.

"Bella can you just explain properly because I'm rather shocked to see my sister and our best friend kissing! We used to protect you Jesus if I knew he wanted you for himself... I should have been protecting you from him!"

"We had feelings for each other for a while. As we grew up it got worse. This was the first time in a while anything had happened"

"So you've slept together?" Nathan looked like he was going to be sick.

I guilty looked down. "Not recently"

"Not recently! For god sake I'm gonna kill him!" Nathan turned to leave but as he walked to the doorway I noticed Sam standing in shock.

"Sam" I let out tearful sob as I saw his face. He already heard everything.

"Tell me this isn't what I think I just heard" he walks slowly past Nathan towards the dreaded paper.

"Well if you think my traitorous best friend has been shagging my sister behind my back then yes it's what you think" Nathan spat out in frustration and slammed the door in his leave.

"I'll go after him" Chloe muttered she looked down at the floor avoiding both our eye contact and headed out behind him.

Nathan's pov

"Nathan wait" Chloe's familiar voice rang through my head as I was about to get into my car my body shaking with anger. I needed to get to Hunter.

"Stay out of it Chloe" I felt her hands wrap around my arm. "Just wait please"

"What? What could you possibly say to make any of this ok?"  I remembered questioning Hunter before he lied to my face!

"Nothing I can't make it ok but I know Bella and I know Hunter. They wouldn't have done this on a whim."
