"I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS."

"Believe what?!"

"You!"

I looked awkwardly between Alex and Bec as they argued. I really didn't want to intervene, but Alex hadn't done anything wrong, so I didn't get why Bec was being so aggressive.

"Bec, calm down," I chimed in timidly. "Alex hasn't done shit."

Her neck cracked as she turned at me. "Alex forgot to replace the tissue in the toilet!"

Alex and I simultaneously looked at each other and shook our heads. He breathed out and looked at Bec with a smile slowly creeping onto his face.

"Damn. You didn't have to be a dramatic bitch about it!" he said as he walked cautiously toward Bec and dragged her to the couch. "How long have you been listening?"

Bec looked away, guilty. "A while."

Alex shuddered and groaned at Bec's response. "You weren't supposed to hear any of it."

"What, that my boyfriend's a shy little pussy-"

"Hey!" I interrupted. "I'm shy too..."

Bec laughed which made Alex and I blush. Alex blushing was just a unique thing for me to see though. Did he always do that? Had I never noticed?

As Bec stopped laughing, she sighed and sat on the couch right behind me with her knees touching my back. Alex sat next to her on the couch, to my back right.

"I'm not actually upset about the tissue. Actually, I just finished it. But I am upset that you didn't tell me about this Alex. You literally only talked to us to make avoiding us easier."

"I didn't!" Alex defended as he reached out for Bec but she moved away and crossed her arms over her chest in an annoyed stance.

I felt bad about this, so I tried to solve the situation. "Bec, he literally talked to us to avoid avoiding us!"Something I should have done with a certain someone. "Now, I know you aren't this dense, so quit being dramatic."

"'Dense'?!" she repeated, puzzled. "D'you just call me stupid?!"

I remained silent and looked to the front at the blank screen of the TV. Bec's laughter penetrated the house, however, making me less tense.

"Jay, I was just kidding. I'm actually mad because Alex wants us to watch a horror movie and he knows how much I hate horrors!"

Alex rolled his eyes and this time, he was the one doing the annoyed stance.

"I can't believe you got all flustered because of a freaking movie!"

"Well, consider that a lesson."

I sighed in disappointment when the bickering went on for another two minutes. They never fought this much either...and it's all because of a horror movie!

"Bec, let's just watch the movie. It's just a bunch of special effects, ugly masks and detailed make-up. It's not real!" I tried convincing her. "What movie is it anyway Alex?"

"'The Sister'."

"Oooh! The prequel of that creepy doll movie?"

Alex nodded.

"Okay. Fine," said Bec." Let's watch it."

The movie ended at around six in the evening and Ryan had already come home from University. Bec and Alex were fast asleep but Ryan and I, both sitting on the carpet, were just disappointed that the movie had already come to its end.

"Well, that was fun!" he commented. "I've never laughed at a movie like that."

"Yeah! The jumpscares weren't much of a scare either!"

"You know, what's scary?" he whispered. "That these two are sleeping on the same couch like that."

Ryan pointed at Alex and Bec. Alex's leg was hanging from the side of the couch like it had been halfway amputated. Bec's head was dangling from the front and her hair was sprawled out on the ground. I can't even begin to describe how she was able to keep her body on the couch itself.

What I knew at the time was that they'd definitely both wake up with a massive ache. Or even several aches. Who knows?

"Wake up kids!" Ryan screamed at them. They both jolted and sat up instantly, confused and disoriented.

"What the fuck?" said Alex first in a half-awake tone. He rubbed his eyes lazily and then went back to sleep. Bec, on the other hand, laughed calmly at Ryan and shook her head to get some of her hair off her face.

"That movie was boring," she said.

"Maybe because you were watching most of it with your eyes closed!" Ryan defended. "It was the funniest horror movie I've ever seen!"

"Say that for yourself, Ryan. Everything's always funny and exciting for you."

Ryan ignored her and stood up. 'Bounced up' is a more accurate description though. He took each of Alex's and Bec's hands then yanked them up. Both of them groaned, clearly not ready to desert their spots on the couch.

"Come on kids! I brought home some food. We could even order pizza."

"You know, you're just one year older than us, kid," argued Alex when he finally woke up again.

"You're seventeen?!" Bec asked, surprised. At least she seemed more awake then. Who could blame her? I was also pretty shocked that Ryan's just a year older. But of course, we were turning seventeen this year too. In fact, Alex was already seventeen. He turned just a few days before summer ended.

"He's eighteen, turning nineteen on March."

"Okay!" Ryan intervened. "Let's eat dinner!"

Dinner was great. We had spaghetti and meatballs then we headed straight for our rooms and slept.

Friday nights were never exciting anyway, since we were always exhausted from school. It was always tempting to sleep early on Friday just so that we could extend our sleep on Saturday morning upto eleven at the lastest.

Our sleeping arrangement was pretty comfortable too. Bec and I were to sleep in Ryan's room, since it was cleaner, and Ryan and Alex in Alex's room. I slept on the ground near the bed on top of an old but comfy mattress while Bec slept on the bed.

I fell asleep fast and rested peacefully for most of the night until my phone buzzed a few times. I stirred awake and saw a text notification from Jayden. Why would Jayden be texting me? At five in the morning?

Of course, I opened the text fast, careful enough not to wake Bec up.

"hi," it read.
