ATHANASIA POV

Nonetheless, a new week came round. Again, literature. I tapped my pen against the table, scribbling hard onto my private notebook as Mr Robane talked about poetry.

Starting Public School!

1: get to know Ijekiel Alpheus ( with the help of Lucas! )

2: fall in love with someone

3: watch all of mom's old dance videos without crying

4: be happy with Daddy, Lily and Felix

I stared at the list I'd written before on the first day of school, being afraid I'd be too cooped up studying than to do things I really wanted to enjoy. I turned to Lucas- who was again, dosing off with his spectacles drooping down his nose, hoodie showed his messy black locks running down his forehead.

I couldn't help but smile.

"Now, I want you guys to use everything I've taught you today, and finish analysing this poem with your partner."

"I know English Literature may not be your best forte, but give it a try, kiddos," Felix spoke, passing down a worksheet of a poem. I felt screwed- not listening at all in the class, but daydreaming and staring at a bucket list instead?

Lucas' eyes launched open, eyes half closed as he picked up his pen, speed scribbling onto a piece of foolscap. "What're you doing?" I whispered, flustered and confused. "You weren't listening- so I'm carrying the team," he joked.

Poking his sides, I couldn't help but feel a sudden pain in my head- as if it were a prick to my brain- but an excruciating, extremely painful one. I felt my head drop to hit the desk as I cushioned the fall with my arms, the pain lasted for a good whole 10 seconds, before disappearing without a trace. "You okay?" Lucas's face was written with concern, a slightly worried- but more of an afraid expression.

I nodded, putting my hand to feel my forehead- it didn't seem like a fever, not a headache either, but even so, I'd ignored it anyway.

•••

"Class dismissed," the sounds of my classmate's cheering rang the air- the usual noisy atmosphere of lunch-time. Daddy never really had much time for me the past week- so I'd stuck to Lucas like glue. I'd only been there for two months so far, but Lucas and I'd gotten so much closer.

I'd looked to him again, dosing off; tie crooked and hair messy as a bush- he really was a big black lone wolf, wasn't he? But of course, my most important friend. "Lucas," I whispered. "I'm gonna go get food, so don't say I ditched you!" My voice was soft, trying not to wake him up as I stood from my seat and tried sneaking away. I could smell his scent of a cocoa scented cologne mixed with sweat, his hair soft as fur.

Lucas and I had a pact- no ditching was our only rule in friendship. Of course, I wasn't, but I didn't want any misunderstandings. After all, he was asleep.

Turning away, I felt a strong grip grasp my wrist- warm and with extremely soft skin. "Could've woken me up, you know."

Crap, I thought, turning around sheepishly to Lucas turning to me with a smug smirk plastered on his face. "Fine, let's go before everything's sold out," I pouted, grabbing his hand, clasping it in mine like I'd always did with Daddy.

"What are you doing?" Lucas pulled his hand away, flustered, but face seeming to be written with a little tinge of disgust. For some reason, I could feel a little prick, but ended up saying "sorry", anyway. I could feel a pang of guilt hit me- would it cause a headache for him again?

"No, no. Sorry, I'm just not used to human contact," a small awkward smile crept his lips as he raked a hand through his hair. I heaved a sigh of relief to know he didn't hate me for that.

  "Lucas!"

A deep, low voice echoed from the corridor as a tall figure- but slightly shorter than Lucas ran up and tackled Lucas with a bear-hug from the back. Lucas's face turned ashen white- his face seemed frozen from shock when he looked around to see a boy with golden shining eyes and snow-white hair. For some reason, he looked oddly familiar to me.

"Oh, you," his face muscles relaxed, exhaling a breath as he got out of the boy's grasp. "I told you to stop doing that, you idiot!" Lucas's hands were clipped onto the guy's shoulders, before dusting his sleeves straight. "Where have you been? You've been MIA for a whole week," he proceeded to say. There I stood in the middle, looking to each of them every time they spoke a word.

The boy said something about an academic camp he went to- and got to skip school for a while. Their conversation then went on from that all the way to anime- I was beyond confused.

"Oh, right- you have company," the guy's eyes seemed to catch the sight of me as I stood there, slightly puzzled but knowing it was a bromance reunion. "Who's this?"

  Looking closely- I finally realised.

Those golden eyes and snow-white hair only belonged to Ijekiel Alpheus. It made so much sense then- Lucas did say his best friend- maybe only other than me was Ijekiel.

Again, how awkward it would be to have someone you got rejected by as a child to be standing right in front of your eyes? There was no way I could let Lucas say I was Athanasia! He would hate me for life- and I'd never get to know him.

  "This, is-"

"Athy- I'm Athy. Call me Athy," I slapped a hand across Lucas's mouth as he struggled to pull it away, gasping for air- which was weird, because he wouldn't usually have difficulty with getting out of my strangle-hugs from the back to the neck.

  Ijekiel seemed beyond confused.

Looking to Lucas, I gave a pitiful pleading face- doggo eyes, to be in fact. Lucas sighed, before hitting his face with his palms. "Athy."

"I see, well then," Ijekiel turned to me, bowing. "It's nice to meet you, Mi'lady," Ijekiel took my hand, gently placing a kiss on the back of my hand. Damn, just like a prince, I thought. I could feel my face heating up, his ashen white hair glistening in the sunlight shining through the window.

It seemed as if my heart skipped a beat- a warm, fuzzy feeling filled my stomach.

"Well then, I'll see you guys after school," I could hear the words escape Ijekiel's mouth as he turned back, waving while running off somewhere. "After school?" I looked to Lucas, who was already half asleep. A soft smile crept up my lips. Even so, I was worried- had he been sleeping well?

"Let's go," I grabbed his arm, dragging him to the cafeteria as planned.
